Ray Yeager earned all around cowboy honors at the District 3 High School Rodeo in Choteau, totaling 310 points with wins in saddle bronc riding and a first in bull riding. Darlene Swanson led girls as all around champion with 375 points, winning barrel racing breakaway roping and cow cutting. Greta Gustafson was named rodeo queen as local placers include Roger Weist second in calf roping and Darlene Swanson in multiple girls events. Top three event winners advance to Glendive for state rodeo, with attendance reported higher than prior district events.

Grant Gormley started, Davison relieved, and Larry Jensen finished as catcher. Dellwo Nordhagen also noted for the losers with Doug Sterley catching. Zumwalt Rites Slated in Missoula for Rancher and Rodeo Figure
Funeral services will be held in Missoula for Oral Zumwalt, 59, a Missoula rancher and rodeo stock contractor who produced many Choteau rodeos and was a noted rodeo competitor in the late 1920s and 1930s. He died Sunday at a rodeo he was producing in Big Timber from a heart attack. He hailed from Morenci, Arizona, and was part of a championship bronc riding team that competed in Australia in 1937.

Mayor Urges Voters To Back New City Fire Truck
Mayor D. P. Fabrick urged Lions club members to vote Saturday to approve funding for a $17,000 fire truck. He argued it is sound business to replace the present engine and that premiums and fire coverage will rise without the purchase. The city can cover the cost via a 2% mills fire equipment tax and current funds of $4,700, with payments stretched over five years. No tax increase is expected, and other debts are due to be dissolved in three years. A simple majority is needed for approval. The meeting also named Lions officers and noted pool filtration work and pool tickets for fund-raising.
