Pat Hume, Fortine mill operator, announces a new sawmill to be built near Chateau on Olney and Porcupine Creeks in about six weeks. The plant will run 30,000 board feet daily, employ about 25 workers, and produce 2x4 studs for wholesale while shipping nonlocal lumber east. 287 Caravan Extends Tour To Edmonton
The exuberant U S Highway 287 Caravan, a Texas Colorado Wyoming group, extended its tour from Chateau to Edmonton Alberta to promote a Mississippi to Canada highway stretch via Yellowstone Glacier Park Chateau. The association planned to end at Lethbridge but added stops to boost business. In Chateau the Chamber of Commerce hosted a banquet with speeches and birthday celebrations.
