Car overturns with mother and five children near Augusta

A 1952 Kaiser driven by Mrs Reuben Depner of Choteau with five children aged up to seven overturned on highway 33 eight miles south of Augusta early Wednesday. The mother sustained injuries and was hospitalized. none of the children were hurt. Mrs Depner walked for help after the crash. a Missoula motorist aided her and Patrolman Helf filed a citation.

Guthrie Named Staffer for Montana State University Writers Conference

Author A. B. Guthrie joins a staff of noted writers and educators for Montana State University writers conference on the campus the week of July 22. Conference director H. V. Larom says 50 registrants may attend. Guthrie's novel These Thousand Hills is being adapted into a Twentieth Century Fox motion picture.

James Yule Dies After Long Forest Service Career

James B. Yule, 73, retired chief of surveys and maps in the Forest Service engineering division, died Tuesday of last week at a Missoula hospital. Born February 21, 1884 in Cascade County, he entered service in 1911, retired September 1, 1947, and was an uncle of A. M. Red Yule of this city. Surviving are his widow, two daughters, two grandsons, sisters and brothers.

Junior Legion Squad Wins over Fairfield

Chateau American Legion Junior baseball team came from 5 to 2 deficit in the ninth to beat Fairfield by key hits. Ken Rustad hit a three run homer to seal the comeback as Fred Jackson earned the win and Phillips took the loss in a tight conference opener.

Carson Barnes Circus Comes to Chateau for Two Shows

Tom McLaughlin announced the Carson & Barnes combined wild animal circus will tour Chateau with two performances on Tuesday, June 25 at 2:30 and 8 pm. The show features 20 acts, a larger menagerie with big cats, elephants, camels, and a 4 ton hippo, plus posters to follow in surrounding territory. Phillips Petroleum begins rotary drilling on Gladys Yeager land Northwest of Chateau, testing Madison formation at about 3,500 feet.

GTA Warns Vote Means 3 Million for Teton County

GTA releases claim that a yes vote in the National Wheat Referendum set for June 20 would save at least 3,675,000 dollars for Teton county farmers and local merchants. The Rocky Mountain District of the Evangelical Lutheran Church held its biennial convention in Havre from Monday June 10 attracting attendees from Montana Idaho and northern Wyoming. Delegates from Chouteau Dutton Lutheran joined the gathering with Mrs Les Stevenson Mrs L Trebesch and others while Dr Frederick A Schiotz president of the church delivered the opening address. Sid Hirshberg dies in California after stroke

Funeral services for Sidney Hirshberg, who died in Van Nuys California last Friday, were held at Valhalla Memorial Park North Hollywood. He suffered a stroke about three weeks ago. Hirshberg was tied to a once prominent Teton county family born at Fort Benton and once ran Havre's Orpheum Theater before switching to the Los Angeles restaurant business in 1926 and retiring in 1945. He is survived by his widow Nellie a daughter Mrs Ray Dow of North Hollywood a son Lt Sidney Hirshberg Jr of Washington DC and two grandchildren.
