Forest Service Plants 42 000 Trees in Jones Creek Project
A 10 man Indian crew from the Blackfeet Reservation directed by Alternate Ranger Snappy Stenson planted 42 000 Douglas fir seedlings on 50 acres of burned land in Jones Creek 30 miles west of Chateau. Seedlings grown at Savenac Nursery were four years old at planting as part of a five year effort to reforest the Jones Creek watershed despite repeated rain and snow.

The second annual Jaycees Kid's fish derby drew 150 fishermen and helpers last Sunday led by grand prize winner Roy Jacobse with a 17 ounce trout. Winners in age groups included Lawrence Truchot 10 oz, Danny Danz 8% oz, Richard Clough 7 oz, Robin Maroney 6 oz, James Sulgrove 5% oz, and Larry Tibbits 5 oz. Carol Alzheimer won the girl's division and first girl caught fish prize. Danny Jacobs led the boys junior division with a 7 oz fish. Judges were Jake Luinstra and Dave Terry.

Choteau Accepts Cadillac Ambulance From Hospital Board
The Choteau City Council accepted the Cadillac ambulance donated by the hospital board ambulance committee. Arnold C. Hanusa handed over the vehicle to the city to man house and service. Everett Brewer, rancher and horse buyer, injured in a two vehicle collision two miles east of Shelby on Memorial Day. Harry Aker, 56, died at Shelby hospital from crash injuries. Alfred St. Germaine 70 overseas WWI veteran died May 31 at Port Harrison Veterans Hospital after seven months illness. CHS Students Attend Science Institute at MSU Bozeman
Chateau high school juniors Sue Frazier Richard Koch and Ray Erickson attend the junior engineers and scientists summer institute at Montana State College in Bozeman. Mr and Mrs Bill Frazier traveled to Bozeman to join them. The program directed by Dr Adrien L Hess covers engineering and science pathways for invited students from Idaho Wyoming and Montana.
