Choteau edged Augusta 16 to 15 in a pageball game ending with a tense rally. Early in the contest Choteau led 10 to 1 as Gough and Ferguson collided, but Augusta surged late, though fell short. Umpire King presided as a large Chateau crowd attended the weekend matchup.

A good rain fell in the Chateau country Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, bringing three quarters of an inch and moistening the soil from an inch to three and a half inches deep. The Sun River beach and Lake Basin received heavier rainfall, with a large storm seen to the north. The rain, while not heavy, has done great good to crops and range.
Local business leaders form executive committee and subcommittees to organize races printing music parade and program features for a large town Fourth of July celebration. Dorrington named parade marshal and work begins on Moore field track with a cornet band from nearby towns.

Miss Clara Lestrud became a June bride at her mother’s home with Mr. John Moore officiated by Rev. H A Prescott. The couple, joined by Violet Lestrud and Ernest Moore, shared a wedding dinner before moving to a new home three miles north of Choteau.
Washington May 31. Republican leaders vow to pass the irrigation bond bill as part of the administration program including the railroad bill and anti injunction. Montana lawmakers led by Senator Carter press for funds to finish delayed projects with Dixon Pray and Carter driving the effort amid President Taft’s support for the rider.
The district paid 310000 in bonds at American Exchange National Bank New York City. The fifteen year bonds at six percent could have continued five more years, but funds in the sinking fund allowed prompt payoff. The district now stands clear of debt with a strong financial position for its school buildings.

On Sunday at the Chateau grounds Farmington and Fairfield played to a 9 to 9 tie after nine innings. A rules dispute caused Fairfield to leave the field in the tenth, leaving the contest unresolved and the supremacy question undecided.
County boards completed marking seventh and eighth grade examinations. Four hundred twenty six manuscripts were turned in with about twenty writing only on seventh grade subjects. Fifteen diplomas issued. Miss Bessie Kale from Burton school posted the highest general average. Civics proved the hardest subject. grammar arithmetic and history followed. A retake opportunity exists for those below standard in late August.
Washington June 7 The Montana delegation secures passage in both houses of Carter amendments to the Mondell bill allowing agricultural entry of surface rights on coal lands. The measure heads to conference with broad western impact, applying to over ten million acres already classified and forty five million more withdrawn pending classification.
The county jail houses only one inmate after two prisoners were transferred to Deer Lodge by Judge Ewing last week. Local officials note the jail’s decreasing population as a sign of rising unpopularity for the facility.
The ladies of Farmington host a lawn social at J Petersons on Saturday evening June 18 with supper at 6 o clock. Proceeds support the Lutheran school. Everyone is invited.
