Kids Fish Derby Attracts Strong Turnout In Spring Creek
The first annual Spring Creek fish derby sponsored by the Chateau Junior Chamber of Commerce drew 60 to 70 children ages 2 to 12. Richard Clough won the 15 inch Rainbow in the 10 to 12 group, plus a propane camp lantern. Pete Frazer earned a hunting knife for a 10 1/8 inch trout. Kenny Brown took first with an 11 inch Rainbow in the under-10 group.

Over the past weekend Chateau measured .75 inches in three showers .08 .63 .04 totaling three quarters of an inch. Ground was very dry but moisture remains low due to holdover dryness. Fair rain without hail could boost wheat crops. high winds damaged soil. some areas reported over an inch unofficially while others received less.

Gillis LaRance Dies. Veterans Conduct Last Rites Tuesday
Gillis LaRance, 54, Choteau resident, died last Saturday after two years illness. V F W and National Guard units directed cemetery rites at 2 pm Tuesday. Burial followed at Chateau Cemetery with pallbearers Henry Erickson, George Bleecker, Jess Bleecker, Norman Haugan, Fred Meadows, Nick Pambrun. He had worked as a farm laborer in Belleview before joining the army in 1942, served with the 354th base headquarters and air base squadron, and returned to Teton County after World War II. He was born October 8, 1901, in Choteau, son of James and Mabel LaRance, survived by a sister, two half-sisters, and a half-brother. He belonged to the C. James Smith Post, American Legion.

Funeral Tomorrow for Joe Walkington
Last rites for Joe Walkington retired Bole farmer will be held at the Methodist church Friday afternoon at 2 o clock with Rev Grant S Moore officiating. The remains will be shipped to Sioux Falls South Dakota for burial beside his wife. Walkington died early morning at a local hospital. Mr and Mrs A H McGinnis were Sunday visitors at the home of their son Don in Fort Benton.
