The conservation office in Chateau reports soil benefit payments totaling $177,552.73 in Teton County with about $3,500 more for range improvements. Some 675 of 700 eligible farmers have received checks, while 33 of 51 ranchers cashed theirs last Friday. The total expected allocation approaches $200,000 and checks continue arriving. County Agent Fred Willson notes extensive outreach through meetings, letters, articles, and radio to ensure all farmers could participate.

Popular Teacher and Forester Wed in Helena
Miss Beulah Brown head of home economics at Teton county high school and Clarence A. Bud McNeal of Helena were married in Helena. The bride, from Conneaut Ohio, taught in Belleview and at Teton county high before joining the faculty at Defiance Ohio and Ohio State. McNeal, son of the late Roy and Mrs McNeal of Bynum, is a U S forest service employee and ranger alternate on the Teton district. They will live at Ear Mountain ranger station on the Teton river.

Voters favor rearing pond near Claude pending approval
At a Teton County Sportsmen's meeting in Chateau last Thursday night the group voted to spend about 75 dollars to build a rearing pond on the M. J. Lyon ranch near Claude, contingent on State Fish and Game commission approval and fish supply. A separate 100 dollars for stocking streams with six and seven inch trout was referred to a committee for study with Otto Wagnild naming George Benedett and John T. Moore to join Dr. E. J. Crary on the fish committee.

Trail Riders to Visit Lewis and Clark Forest July 10
Trail Riders of the Wilderness will depart Missoula on July 4 for a 12 day trek into the Sun River wilderness and south fork of the Flathead River, marking their fifth straight year. Forest Ranger Duvendack will coordinate from Chateau, meeting the party near the continental divide at Cliff Mountain and rejoining near Larch Hill and Red Head Peak with Ranger Wiles in Augusta and a supervisor’s office representative at Great Falls.

Miss Hazel Anderson, county nurse, spends the week in Great Falls for a state public health nurses conference held Tuesday and Wednesday and a State Nurses' Association meeting running through Saturday.
