Montana wheat stocks on July 1 totaled 19 686 000 bushels up 18 percent from 16 725 000 a year earlier. Disappearance from April 1 to July 1 reached 28 907 000 bushels versus 30 930 000 last year. Juvenile parolee nabbed in Chateau burglary case

A juvenile escapee from Minnesota State Training School in Red Wing was arrested by Chateau night marshal Edward McFarren and Sheriff Al Peterson on Tuesday evening. He carried a loaded .22 pistol and stolen items, led officers to cached goods, and admitted involvement in burglaries across Chateau and nearby towns before being held for Minnesota authorities.

Youngster Saves Older Cousin From Drowning

Alfred Powers a 12 year old from Chateau leaped into Deep Creek near the Burch Powers Hereford ranch to rescue his 14 year old cousin Dale Smith who was drowning. He pulled Dale to shore after being submerged several times and the boy recovered with thanks.

Augusta Dodson Tie For Montana High School Rodeo Honors

Jerry Nordland of Dodson high school named all around cowboy at the Montana Championship rodeo in Augusta. Donna Brown of Helena named all around cowgirl and Kari Li Kuhr of Chinook named rodeo queen. The two day event drew 103 entries from about 40 Montana high schools and qualified winners advance to the national high school rodeo in Augusta. Dodson and Augusta tied for the Gene Lease Memorial trophy with 50 points each, the trophy remaining with the schools until one wins three consecutive times.

Four men were sent Tuesday by the local Selective Service board for pre induction physical examinations in Butte. In Teton county the 4-H clubs displayed exhibits and projects at the annual Elimination Day in the Methodist church basement. Valuation Increases in Teton County Assessed

County Assessor Fred Woodward reports higher valuations for Teton County with full valuation at 34 724 070 and taxable at 9 323 324, up from 32 270 964 and 8 724 179 last year. Chateau Fairfield and Dutton show gains in both full and taxable valuations, while agricultural products, farm machinery, merchandise and household goods rise, and livestock counts shift with value changes.

Morey Wins State Honor at Annual Moose Convention

George Morey sergeant at arms of the Chateau Moose lodge was named the state champion sergeant at arms at the 27th Montana Association of Moose convention in Great Falls. He scored 99.75 of 100 and led the Chateau Moose degree team to seventh place in eight teams, with members Trexler Hart Nauck Larson Anderson and Morey. Choteau’s 1952 assessed valuation rises to 2,976,322 up from 2,933,048, a gain of 43,274.
