Fairfield Wins 13 Team Little League Tourney Championship

Fairfield's Little League team captured the Choteau Invitational title by beating a Choteau-Augusta composite 12-10 in the championship game. Dorle earned the win with 10 strikeouts as Fairfield climbed from a 2-3 deficit and scored four runs in the fourth inning. The two-day, 13-team event included 22 games with standout performances from Dorle, Amestoy, Stenson, and Durocher. Tournament organizers thanked contributors including the concession staff and scorekeepers.

Teton Livestock Day Held at Yeager Ranch

The Annual Teton County Livestock Day occurred July 13 at Harold Yeager Ranch near Chateau. Winners include Fay Lowery champion rabbit, Doris Newman grand fat beef, Rai na McCain grand breeding sheep, Jill Stephens senior horse showman, Mandy Schwartz all around showman, and many more with trophies donated by Sunny Slope Ranch and others. Rain did not dampen 4-H participants spirits as the event moved from the Rodeo Grounds to the Yeager Ranch.

Wet Storage Structure Loans Authorized for Farms

Loans for building wet storage structures are now authorized under the ASCS farm facility loan program. Eligible producers can borrow up to 85 percent of cost, not exceeding 50 000 dollars, with a 7 percent interest rate. Benefits target dairymen and livestock feeders needing storage for high moisture grain and grain silage. Contact the county ASCS office.

A H McGinnis longtime Chateau resident died Friday July 22 in Teton Memorial Hospital at age 85 Funeral services were held Monday July 25 in Burns Funeral Chapel with Rev Dyer Morgan officiating Burial was in Chateau cemetery He was born February 14 1892 in Le Claire Iowa served in WWI homesteaded near Chateau worked in a garage city marshal and John Deere store He married Elsie Horst September 8 1917 Survivors include his widow a daughter in law Connie and grandsons Greg and Bruce of Fort Benton

Chateau Sidewalk Sale Marks Annual Shopping Event

Chateau hosts its annual Sidewalk Sale Friday and Saturday August 5 and 6 during regular store hours. City Budget For 1977-78 Shows 10 Mill Increase

City Council adopted a preliminary budget of 421,069.26 dollars for the coming year and set a 61 mill levy to balance the budget. The general fund shows a 13,000 dollar expenditure increase, with four police positions funded if the Public Service program continues.

Rules on Stockwater Development Announced

Effective July 1, stockwater reservoirs under 15 acre feet and non perennial stream sources no longer require a permit before construction. An application for a water use permit must be filed with DNRC with the receipt date as the water right priority. DNRC Director John C. Orth warns that if downstream rights are affected, permits may be denied or altered and advises building only with a permit or including drainage to downstream appropriators.
