Huck Finn Day Slated For Sunday In Park

Jaycees chairperson Jerry Larson announces Huck Finn Day for Sunday August 7 at the park. Registration starts 8 am for a fish derby with prizes for largest catch, followed by a costume contest games and awards to best dressed Huck Finn boy and girl. The event ends with a family picnic and merchandise prizes.

93 Year Old Nick Vlinker Services Held on Friday

Funeral services for 93 year old Nick Vlinker were held Friday in Burns Funeral Chapel. Vlinker died July 27 at Teton Nursing Home. He was born September 20 1883 in Rotterdam and came to the United States as a young man. He homesteaded in 1912 and raised registered Hereford cattle. He co owned two meat markets in Choteau and later focused on his ranch. He became a citizen in 1918 and married Irma Parker in 1923. Surviving is step daughter Inez Brilakis. He was active in local and state Hereford associations and Odd Fellows.

Eugene C Baquet 56 Collins area rancher died Thursday at Pon dera County Hospital Conrad. Services Monday at Chateau Methodist Church with Rev Glenn Truscott presiding. Burial Hillside Cemetery Conrad. Survived by wife Gladys two sons and three daughters. Memorials to American Cancer Society or Dutton United Methodist Church.

Teton County History Call Goes Out

Several communities seek local histories. Bonnie Hodgskiss has compiled a Great North Trail history and a trail marker is being built. Art Pearson is producing a long running topographical map. Final call for histories and pictures is issued by the Teton County History Committee to Olga Monkman.

Social Security Rep to Visit in Chateau

A local Great Falls representative will visit the Commissioners Office in Chateau on Wednesday August 10. Hours are 10 a.m. to noon and 1 to 2 p.m. Residents may ask questions about Social Security during the session.

Lions Swim Team Seizes Second in Western Divisional Meet

Cut Bank Swim Club toppled Chateau to claim the Western division title by 18 points as the federation saw 35 records fall in western events. Chateau's Jonel Carlson lowered the intermediate girls 100 meter breaststroke record by 2.2 seconds and the senior girls relay set a federation mark at 2:14.2 before Chinook rebroke it in central division. Chateau’s senior girls squad included Donna Ferris Theresa Scott Jonel Carlson and Dru Nordhagen.

Governor Urges Montanans to Conserve Energy

Governor Tom Judge calls for immediate energy saving across Montana. State agencies must cut electricity use by at least ten percent and urged industries and individuals to follow. The alert stems from drought threatening hydro reservoirs before spring runoff. The Montana Power Co. distributes tips to help reduce consumption.

Marlenees Mobile Office Visits Area Constituents

Congressman Marlenee's mobile office tours eastern Montana to assist constituents with federal issues. It will be in Chateau Aug 8 9 from 4 to 6 pm and 8 am to noon, and in Dutton Aug 8 from 10 am to 2 pm, near the Choteau Acantha and on Main Street. July Weather and High Point Highlights From Local Swim Meet

July was hot and dry with 1.36 inches of rain, above average for the month. Top performances came from Chateau’s Todd Curtis and Dru Nordhagen as Columbia Falls led in high points, while Cut Bank edged Choteau and Columbia Falls in the relays by two points. The federation championships loom in Lewistown with Harlem Malta and Plentywood scoring deep in the 300s.

No Fish Limits At Eureka And Nilan Lakes

Authorities announce no limit on fish caught at Eureka Lake north of Chateau and at Nilan Lake near Augusta starting August 1. Lakes will be drained for irrigation and Eureka will be poisoned to remove trash fish.

Winter Wheat Harvest Begins In This Area

Harvesting has started in Teton County including the Chateau area as hot dry weather speeds work. By the week ending July 30 nearly 25 percent of winter wheat was combined statewide, versus 10 percent last year and five percent on average.

Construction bids asked for clinic in Teton County

Teton County Commissioners invite bids for a medical offices building near the new hospital. Bid opening is set for Wednesday, Aug. 24 at 3 p.m. in the courthouse. Plans and forms are available at the architect's office in Great Falls.

Mrs. Edwards Dies at 91 in Chateau Community

Laura Mae Edwards 91 died Tuesday August 2 at Teton Nursing Home after a long residence there. Funeral Friday August 5 at 2 p.m. United Methodist Church with Rev. Dyer Morgan. Burial in Chateau Cemetery. She was born February 12 1886 in Pittsburg Kansas. Survived by daughters Velma Olsen and Mary Schilling both of Chateau nine grandchildren sixteen great grandchildren one brother Mack Kurke of Pittsburg and many nieces and nephews. Her husband N Walter Edwards died 1973 and a daughter Opal Mae Olsen preceded her in 1964. She was active in United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women and Fidelity Chapter 18 OES.

Harold Dreyer Completes Fire Control School

Seaman Apprentice Harold A. Dreyer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Dreyer of Chateau, has completed a 23 week Fire Control Technician course at the Naval Training Center Great Lakes Illinois. He studied radar digital computers and shipboard weapons control systems and joined the Navy in October 1976 after graduating from Chateau High School in 1976.
