Montana Cuts State Educational Bond Tax Levy Now
The Montana Board of Equalization ordered a statewide tax cut in the state educational bond interest and sinking fund levy reducing it from 10-12 of a mill to 4-12 of a mill. The move lowers the property tax burden by about 1.86 mills on the taxable value, with the goal of immediate relief while $625,000 remains to be retired by July 1, 1941. The decision follows a balanced state budget and aims to reflect in counties where further mill reductions are possible. The state's share of the property tax dollar drops from 9.8 cents in 1937 to about 7.83 cents in 1938.

Ashes Returned to Glacier Park for Hodson
The ashes of Lyle R. Hodson, a Montana youth and son in law of Helena’s Mrs. L. H. Reed, were scattered in Glacier National Park where he worked on the Going to the Sun highway. Hodson died last winter at Camp Lewis and his cremated remains were held until summer to honor his wish. Helena pilots dropped the ashes over the park as co pilot Bob Picotte watched from the plane.

Wv W Long operates a five acre strawberry patch in southwestern Malta with 17 pickers, harvesting 45 to 48 crates daily for 20 stores across Malta and nearby towns. He expanded from one acre in 1934 to five acres in 1939, trials new Mastodon and Gem varieties, and uses 35 to 40 tons of manure per acre. Broadwater County Sues State Welfare Board Over Meeting Costs
Broadwater County commissioners filed a suit in the state supreme court seeking $416 in back payments and a ruling that the state public welfare board must cover one half of the costs for meetings held by county welfare boards.
