A bolt of lightning struck a machine shed on Edgar Barrett’s Choteau farm four miles east of Chateau, causing about 4000 dollars in damage. The blaze destroyed a 12 foot Oliver combine, grain bins, two wheat cleaners, and lumber. no insurance coverage was in place.

The Chateau city council completed its preliminary budget for the coming fiscal year at Monday night’s meeting. City Clerk James Sulgrove announced the budget is open to inspection and will be fixed and appropriations made August 6 when the final budget is adopted.
