Combine, Bins Burn in Costly Morning Blaze

A bolt of lightning struck a machine shed on Edgar Barrett’s Choteau farm four miles east of Chateau, causing about 4000 dollars in damage. The blaze destroyed a 12 foot Oliver combine, grain bins, two wheat cleaners, and lumber. no insurance coverage was in place.

Teton Picnic Sunday Draws Countywide Attendance

The planning committee of the all Teton county picnic announces Sunday July 27 at Chateau Park. Frieda Schroder chairs the event with Milton Johnson of Dutton as master of ceremonies. Attendees are urged to bring lunches, a potluck dish, and their own tableware for cafeteria style service.

Hugh Crossen State Champ In Trap Shoot

Hugh Crossen formerly of Choteau won the Montana state trap shoot at Cut Bank by hitting 197 of 200. The victory earned a trophy prize money and a berth to the Grand American handicap in Vandal ia Ohio this August, with Montana clubs paying travel expenses.

City Council Finalizes Preliminary Budget in Chateau

The Chateau city council completed its preliminary budget for the coming fiscal year at Monday night’s meeting. City Clerk James Sulgrove announced the budget is open to inspection and will be fixed and appropriations made August 6 when the final budget is adopted. Taxpayers may speak for or against any part at the August 6 meeting in City Hall office.

Parents May Talk With Sons Overseas Through Army Offices

Army recruiter at Choteau says local parents can converse with sons overseas via shortwave radio. Sergeant Ulch notes the Choteau office partnered with Lyle Coleman of Great Falls, a 1,000 watt radio HAM, to schedule connections. Ed Obernolte owner of Chateau Coast to Coast store will travel to Minneapolis for the Annual Coast to Coast Toy and Gift Show and Mid-Summer Merchandising conference. He will select toy stocks from a large postwar holiday assortment and place orders for fall and winter lines across automotive, hardware, housewares, sporting goods and radios. Juniors Game Canceled By Rain Storm

Wednesday night rain left the Conrad Chateau Junior Legion diamond sloppy, forcing the game scheduled for tonight to be postponed. The sports page listing had shown the game before the rain. Plans are complete for the annual amateur rodeo and 4 H baby beef show in Fairfield this Saturday. Hoppers Infest Region North of Choteau

Grasshopper control supervisor Bill Forsyth reported in Choteau that parts of Pondera Toole and Glacier counties have up to 1000 grass hoppers per square yard. Intensive control is under way and locals should begin baiting in areas with rising hopper numbers while avoiding an outbreak.

Evangelists Assume Duties At Assembly of God Church
