Large Vote Planned to Form Soil Conservation District

In Teton county farmers vote Saturday afternoon July 19 from 1 to 7 pm to decide on a county wide soil conservation district. About 200 attendees favored the district, with no opposition noted. M B Bolland of Dutton is polling sup erintendent. polling places listed. Eligible voters include all landowners tenants and others with land interests in the county. If formed, free soil expert services from the U S Department of Agriculture would be available year round in the Chateau area, with no obligation to adopt any plans.

Choteau Mail Carrier Named State Delegate To Florida Meet

Fred Smith of Choteau was elected Montana state convention delegate of the Montana rural letter carriers. He will travel to Tampa Florida on August 12 for a four day session with delegates from every state and will have two votes at the national convention.

Water users urged to observe sprinkling hours

Chateau residents are reminded sprinkling hours are 7 to 10 am and 5 to 9 pm. City officials say water pumping exceeds 600000 gallons daily. A leak the size of a pin wastes about 125 gallons in 24 hours, and residents are urged to repair leaks to ensure ample water supply for firefighting.

Dr. E. M. Phillips Opens New Chiropractic Office

Spokane chiropractor Dr. E M Phillips began a practice in the Curtis building at Chateau. A Lincoln Chiropractic College graduate with a four year doctor of chiropractic degree, he specializes in X ray spinography and spinal interpretation. He and his wife with two children reside in the Curtis building opposite the post office.

Sportsmen Seek Full-Time Game Warden at Chateau Lake

The Teton Sportsmen's Association asked the State Fish and Game Commission to assign a full-time resident warden to Chateau to cover a large area. They also urged a second warden be stationed locally due to Bruce Neal's wide territory. Eureka Lake, 10 miles northwest of Chateau, has been opened to boats following the meeting. About 20 members attended.

Frieda Schroder announces a county picnic to be held Sunday July 27 in Choteau park. Sponsored by the home demonstration and 4 H clubs, the event features a potluck lunch at noon and stunts and recreation for all ages. All organizations urged to participate and plan now for details next week.

Chateau hires Ruegamer as new coach and three instructors

Howard F. Ruegamer, former Butte Central coach, is named Chateau high school athletic director and coach. New staff also include Ham of Alabama as industrial arts instructor and Gladys Hane returning as upper grade teacher, with prior classroom and welfare department experience.

Bud Guthrie to Visit for Summer in Choteau

A. B. Guthrie Jr. known as Bud Guthrie and author of The Big Sky visits Choteau for the summer with his wife Harriet Larson and daughter Helen. He will autograph copies at Chateau Drug Co later in the summer and plans to write full time, leaving his Lexington Leader city editor post.

Christie Swanson Weds Carl Field Jr in Pendroy Ceremony

Christie Swanson and Carl Field Jr were united in marriage at Pendroy Methodist Church with a double ring ceremony. Officiants were Reverend Engdahl and Reverend Vick. The bride wore a white satin gown, veil, and pearl tiara, carrying white roses. Roberta Field and Mrs Purkett served as bridesmaids. The groom's family and local relatives filled the wedding party as ring bearers and ushers.

Improvements set for 6 Miles on West Side

County Surveyor Carroll Maynard announced bids for grading surfacing and road oiling of the west side of the Choteau Dutton road to be due by July 24. The project runs from Choteau to six miles east with minor drainage structures.

Sixteen 4-H youths attend summer camp near Neihart

Sixteen 4-H members from Teton county join Meagher and Chateau residents at Camp Rotary near Neihart this week. The council ran the camp with Florence Kjellgren and Lloyd Scott on the Teton representation. Activities covered crafts, nature study, safety, recreation, with outdoor games, swimming, play parties and a stunt night culminating in a final ceremony.

School Head Seeks Names Of New Pupils For Grade One

Superintendent Robert Graham of Choteau Public Schools asks parents to contact him by phone mail or at the high school office with the names of children entering first grade in September. Transportation eligibility guides enrollment plans and potential bus service to Fermington district will be announced next week.

Cornell Man to Speak At Methodist Church In Choteau

Dr. Albion King from Cornell College Mt Vernon will speak at the Choteau and Pendroy Methodist churches this Sunday at 9:15 am and 11:00 am. Anna Edwards, Filipino native, will address Choteau Sunday school. King attends Kings Hill institute at Neihart and represents the church national temperance board replacing Rev Engdahl for the day. Engdahl and local youths attend Kings Hill institute with plans to return in a week.
