Helena sportswriter Bud Phillips dies after illness
Clyde H. Bud Phillips 27 longtime Montana Record-Herald sports editor died at a Helena hospital on Sunday July 6 after a six month illness. His funeral was held in Helena with burial planned in Great Falls. He was born near Dutton, studied at Intermountain College Helena and Dakota Wesleyan University Mitchell SD, survived by his widow Ellen, his parents Fred and (Mrs) Phillips, a brother and two sisters.

Enjoyable Lions Party At Bateman Cabin
Lions club members and guests gathered at Dr. H. W. Bateman’s Glen Willow cabin for an annual event. Proceeds funded a pool ticket fund for children. After chicken dinner guests enjoyed games on the north lawn, led by Arnold Hanusa, with a large campfire and singing by Marge Hanusa.

Local youth earn Red Cross certificates in swimming class
About 40 youths attend morning sessions at 10:00 to 11:00 with Keith Vick and Anna Rose as instructors. Certificates awarded include Beginners and Intermediate levels, a Senior Life Saving for Keith Vick, and Junior Life Saving for Robert Woodward and Laverne Dahlin. Dutton Man Killed In Automobile Crash
Oscar Lonnevick, about 45, of Dutton, died instantly when his car was sideswiped by a heavy truck six miles west of Winnett on Tuesday evening. His wife, two daughters Shirley 15 and Ardel 17, and nephew Oscar Sonnevick Jr. were hospitalized in Lewistown for minor facial injuries. their conditions are not serious.

Choteau Country Club members plan to revive their annual handicap event to crown champions in men and women divisions. July 4th Celebration in Chateau Marred by Motorcycle Crash
The Chateau Chamber of Commerce staged a successful July Fourth celebration with a big turnout at the race track and dance. Kenneth Nelson, 19, suffered a skull fracture and spinal injury in a motorcycle crash but is reported recovering. Generous crowds attended the fireworks, with about 400 race admissions, 500 dance admissions, and 200 the next evening. At a meeting in Dutton on June 21 the Teton county Preparedness and Advisory Commission was formed under national defense.
