He worked at Port Angeles Cooperage and Washington Pulp mill, married Nellie Bussh in 1902, with five children and eight grandchildren. Born January 15, 1923 at Bynum she lived in Choteau until three months ago. Survivors include widow Glenna Baty and parents Mr. and Mrs. Wilford Shelmerdine of Choteau two brothers Larry and James and three sisters Twila Wanda and Inez.

County faces wheat storage shortfall this harvest
Surveys by the county agricultural marketing service and the local AAA show only 880000 bushels of existing storage in elevators and warehouses. Some elevators are adding bins to reach just over 1 million bushels by harvest. Farm storage totals about 1 million bushels, with carryover wheat occupying space. A 150000 acre county wheat crop could reach 3 million bushels at 20 bushels per acre, or 2.25 million at 15, plus near 1 million from feed crops, totaling around 4 million. Current storage equals 2 million, or 500 percent of the crop, risking rail unloading and urging farmers to build 75 percent of the crop in storage. Construction costs 5 to 7 cents per bushel. The county agent and local lumber firms host plans, with AAA financing support and wheat loan tie-ins to cover costs.

Local Boy Competes in Ford Good Drivers League
Fred Swain placed first in the county Ford Good Drivers League contest and competed in the Helena state contest Tuesday with Al Barton, the local Ford dealer. The event had 12 boys and 12 girls. Swain did not place at state but earned praise from officials. The state winners were a Helena boy in the men’s division and a Poplar girl in the girls’ division.
