Chateau City Council Debates Dump Ground Street Work

The Chateau city council discussed leasing a site for a new city dump and re-oiling five or six blocks of streets. They will seek an estimate from Powell Construction on street oiling. Several building permits were granted including a storage tank and multiple residences and remodels.

Teton County Boys To Attend Boy's State

Seven Teton county youths join Montana American Legion's second annual Boys State at Montana State College in Dillon from August 15 to 24. The 10 day program, directed by Eugene W Savage of Butte, trains 300 plus students from across the state in government and civic duties. Participants include William Peary John Swanson James Jackson Ronald Dirkes Ivan Konen Vernon Laubach and David Bliss with various local sponsors.

Denver Post writer to cover Hutterite colonies series

R W Fenwick Denver Post feature writer began a roving assignment visiting the Galt and Augusta colonies with Mrs D P Fabrick and C Gibson Monkman to gather material and photos for a Hutterite series. Web Worms Reported In County

County Agent Raymond Kelly warns of green web worms injuring flax and other crops across parts of the county. The pests are 3% to of an inch long and cling on silk threads. Treatments include Paris green in water with soap or a DDT and pyrethrum dust mix, best applied at dusk when the worms feed at night.

John Gleason Rites Conducted in Billings

Masonic funeral rites were conducted last Saturday in Billings for John A. Gleason age 64 former Choteau resident who died of a liver ailment. He was born in Spring Creek Wisconsin and moved to Helena in 1889 with his family. He married Clara Potter in Choteau in 1903. They moved to Billings in 1921 where Mrs Gleason died two years ago. Survivors include a son Kenneth of Choteau three daughters Mrs Harold F. Barlow Spokane Mrs Prentiss Staggs and Mrs John Kolstad both of Billings a brother J L Gleason of Choteau three sisters Mrs Alma Perry and Mrs Erma Vlinker of Choteau and Mrs Mertie Barnett of San Bruno California and several grandchildren. Burial was in Mountview Cemetery.

Orval Stengrimson Dies in Gasoline Fumes

Funeral services were held for 11 year old Orval Emeral Stengrimson in Power after he died July 1 from accidental gasoline fumes. He was found in a truck near Fairfield with his nose at the open tank. Survived by parents Selmer and his mother, siblings Donald and Marjory, and grandparents in Power and Fairfield. Burial at Beck cemetery with Rev. Paul Ernst presiding.

Patrolman Warns Fix Lights

State Highway Patrolman Henry Helf warned this week that owners of cars with defective headlights or taillights must repair them at once. He will issue a summons instead of a warning to be apprehended with defective lights.

Cement Pouring On Storage Tank At Golf Course Hill

Cement pouring for a new water storage tank on the golf course hill will begin tomorrow, with contractors working in continuous shifts until completion. About 200 cubic yards of concrete are required to finish the structure.

Choteau Youths Head to Methodist Camp

Choteau High School Youth Fellowship will depart Monday at six for Kings Hill Institute on the Park to Park highway beyond Neihart Montana. The weeklong camp at 5000 feet features Rev. Harold Engdahl in charge with twelve ministers and two out of state speakers Miss Gertrude Crane and Hank Lacey. Cost is about 10.50 including transport meals and fees. names due by Friday morning.

Concrete Tank Project at Chateau Completion Details

The tank will have a 200 foot circumference and 24 foot height with a 500000 gallon capacity. Dr Blakely the Chateau contractor directs work using a new two ton sack capacity cement mixer.

Small Crowd at Monday Show Oral Zumwalt Tops Money

A July 4 1948 Chateau rodeo drew a thin crowd. Oral Zumwalt won top money with a strong showing across events, earning 351.50, followed by Olsen, Morris, A Dair, Boyce, Schoenberger, and Mavity in order. The two day slate had few injuries and featured notable placings across saddle bronc calf roping bull dogging bareback and wild horse events.

Joyce Johnson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John M. Johnson, married Reuben Depner of Farmington the Friday of July 2 at the home of Mrs. Lindgren in Spokane. Rev. A large crowd gathered at Saint Josephs Church in Choteau to honor Pte Donald N. Paulus USMCR son of Mr and Mrs Nick Paulus. Born in Choteau on June 28 1925 he died on Saipan June 15 1944. Burial followed in Choteau cemetery with full military honors by local veterans posts.

Choteau Defeats Bynum 18 to 7 In Triangle League

Choteau's Triangle league squad crushed Bynum 18 to 7 as Pistoria Kalor and Scott led at bat and on the mound. Zier Lester George pitched for Bynum with Stott catching as Bynum posted 11 hits while Choteau totaled 18 hits including Dellno triple and double and Kalor and Anderson doubles. Sunday schedule lists Power at Bynum Brady at Conrad Fairfield at Choteau and Dutton at Valier.

Choteau Firemen Attend Montana Convention

The fifty sixth annual Montana State Firemen's association convention opens in Great Falls with delegates from Choteau including Gus Thompson Elmer Erickson Lawrence E.
