Zumwalt to Direct Chateau Rodeo With New Clowns Bulls

Oral Zumwalt, veteran showman from Wolf Creek, will direct the Chateau rodeo July 4 and 5. Hellgate Rodeo of Missoula supplies stock, with brahma bulls and clown Frank Cheetwood adding thrills. Tickets from Choteau Drug Co. $2.40 reserved, $1.20 bleacher. 1170 reserved seats and 200 bleachers.

Requiem High Mass for Donald Paulus in Choteau

Requiem High Mass will be sung Saturday at 10 am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Choteau for Donald N. Paulus USMCR the town's third repatriated veteran. Burial follows at Chateau cemetery with military honors by VFW and American Legion. Rosary is Friday at 8 pm. Paulus died June 15 1944 from wounds in Saipan. He was born June 28 1925 in Chateau and graduated Power High School class of 1943. He served with the 4th Marine Division after enlisting November 6 1943 and posthumously received the Purple Heart Presidential Unit Citation. He is survived by his parents and sister Mrs Vaughn Dutro.

Reverend Engdahl Receives Caleb Honor at Missoula

The Rev. H. L. Engdahl returned from the Montana Methodist conference in Missoula where he was made a Caleb, an honor for ministers with 20 years of service in Montana. He received a pioneer knife once owned by Rev. W. W. Van Orsdel. Also noted were staff transfers in Kalispell Havre and a family move to Fairfield.

Guthries Arrive Purchase Twin Lakes in Teton Canyon

Mr. and Mrs. A B Guthrie Jr and family arrive in Chateau to stay through mid August joining Alva Larson and Mrs Guthries sister to spend summer at Twin Lakes. Guthrie Sr and Mrs Larson are long time Teton county residents. He works on two books about the Oregon trail and the Platte and Sweetwater rivers for the American Rivers Series.

Repair Work Begins On Choteau Streets

Choteau undertakes street repairs after heavy rains. Main Street will be filled and patched while south end roads are gravelled. A gravel oil mix sits between Acanths office and city hall as stock pile. Mayor John W. Hentge expects main street ready for July 4.

Choteau Man's Brother Dies In Cave-in

Henry Christman 66 of Great Falls, brother of Choteau resident Gottlieb Christman, died when a root cellar caved in at his home last Friday. Neighbors alerted the Cascade County sheriff after he had not been seen for two weeks. firemen dug out the cellar. Christman was born in Odessa Russia on November 15 1881 and came to the United States 45 years ago.

Funeral Held for Harry M. Chapman in Chewelah

Mrs. E. M. Phillips attended the funeral of her father Harry M. Chapman a building contractor who died of a heart attack about two weeks ago in Chewelah Washington. She remained there about a week before returning home.

Reverend Gravdal Directs Camp for Flathead Lake Rihla

More than 30 youths from Chateau-Dutton-Fairfield Lutheran parishes depart Sunday 10 a.m. from Trinity Lutheran for the Flathead Lake Rihla camp near Kalispell. Camp runs July 5 to 10 with Bible study, Christian education, athletics, and daily hymn singing led by Rev. A Bernard Gravdal and staff. cost $9 for the week.

Chamber To Canvas Main Street

Ed Obernolte reports the Chamber of Commerce will canvass Main Street to raise about $300 more for the mosquito and fly spraying project. The city sprayed Sunday covering all areas including the cemetery golf course and creek. Johnson Flying Service performed the spraying and about $280 was raised in the house-to-house effort.

Robert Joseph Jerome through guardian Fred W. Jerome sues Edward M. Yeager for 37 290.80 dollars over injuries from a Belleview road pickup crash southwest of Chateau. The boy suffered fractures and seeks 36 000 for injuries 790.80 hospital costs 450 doctor fees 210 nursing and other expenditures.

Mother and Daughter Return from Hills Isolation

Mrs Arnold Hanusa and her daughter Sandra Sue are home from a two week isolation at a Blackleaf mountain cabin. Hanusa reached the cabin by car after supplying drops to survivors while roads and bridges were washed out. They were joined by Dr George Sexton and his wife from Great Falls. all returned to Chateau on Sunday. Roads and bridges are reportedly temporarily repaired.

Geologist Weds Cambridge Girl

John Phillip Schafer and Mary Alice Lyon were married June 19 at the Harvard Memorial church in Cambridge Massachusetts. Schafer is well known in the Chateau area having spent the past two summers there gathering geological formations for his master thesis. He is a Brown University graduate and will return to Chateau this summer to continue研究.

Sect Buys More Teton Land

The Hutterite sect now controls about 22,000 acres in Teton county after purchasing 639 acres from Perry Sessions. The property near Bynum includes 50 acres irrigated, 514 acres dry plow land, and 75 acres grazing, bought by Jacob Kleinsasser, David J. Hofer, and Joseph Sam Kleinsasser.

Choteau Agents Named Officers at State Meetings

Raymond Kelly of Choteau was elected vice president of the Montana County Agents association and Frieda Schroder of Choteau named vice president of the Montana Home Demonstration Agents association. Bozeman hosted the 33rd annual Montana Agricultural Extension conference with officers including R F Rasmussen Havre president and H C Cosgriffe Whitehall secretary. Alfreda Forswall Billings president and Iva L Holladay Glasgow secretary-treasurer were also elected in the two groups.

Glacier Transportation Adopts Summer Schedule

The Glacier Great Falls line will depart Chateau at 9 40 a m each day under the new summer timetable. The Augusta loop keeps its route but shifts the Augusta departure to 9 40 a m from 9 p m, effective until further notice.

Projects Occupy 4-H Members

4-Hers in Teton county pursue a broad program of project work and recreation led by Frieda Schroder. June meetings planned further completion steps with a Seeley Lake builders camp June 7 week attracting reps from 10 counties. Bonnie VandeRiet elected camp council president. July through October schedules include livestock judging, 4-H camp, conservation camp, beef sale, farm safety, North Montana Fair, elimination contests, club congress, and records due.
