Chateau Fourth of July Rodeo Opens With Town Events

The annual Chateau Fourth celebration kicks off with an 8 p.m. rodeo at the American Legion arena featuring stock from Zumwalt and Lake and performance by the Chateau German band and the Great Falls VFW drum and bugle corps. Dances, lunches, and trailer space are planned, with the July 4 parade at 11 a.m. including the German band and the Great Falls Air Force band led by majorette Joan Schneider. The second rodeo day begins at 2 p.m., as parade chairman Jimi Jarosimek expects a 20 block procession.

Guthrie Family Rails Missouri River Boat Tour for Post Article

Novelist A. B. Guthrie Jr. of Lexington and his son Bert completed a 12 day boat voyage from Fort Benton to Fort Peck with Randall Swanberg Bob Yeoman John Rice and Pat Coffey on assignment for the Saturday Evening Post. They logged over 360 miles, surveyed historic sites and Lewis and Clark campsites while navigating scarce food and gas supplies. Guthrie plans a Post feature to recount the journey and the landscape around Twin Lakes where he now resides.

Cele Walters Circus Heads To Chateau July 16

The Cole and Walters three ring circus, touted as Montana’s third largest, comes to the Chateau rodeo grounds for an afternoon and evening show on July 16. A 33 vehicle caravan marks its first motorized Montana tour with 25 acts under the big top including performing horses and a menagerie of elephants, lions, tigers, bears, camels and primates.

Soroptomists Celebrate Third Anniversary Here

The Soroptimist club of Chateau held its third annual birthday banquet at the Methodist church last week. New officers installed for the coming year were Ellen Hammond president Edith Tesch vice president Lucille Howard recording secretary Evelyn McAuley corresponding secretary George Tennant treasurer Grace Halvorson three year director. D P Fabrick, speaker of the evening, urged encouragement and faith that peace and goodwill among nations would come.

Hollywood in Chateau The Standard Rides Carnival Opens Tonight

The American Legion rodeo committee sponsors a five ride carnival with concessions running tonight through Sunday. Parade prizes total over 400 dollars with 100 and 50 dollar top prizes for commercial and non commercial floats. Novelty division top prizes are 25 dollars each. children prizes 10, 5, and 5. Parade lineups start at 10 am with floats on First avenue SW and related zones.

Edwards Seeks Chamber Backing for Teton Rest Home Plan

Edwards, chairman of the county charity commission, asked chamber members Wednesday night to help inform Teton residents about a proposal to enlarge the county rest home. The measure appears on the July 15 primaries ballot. no special bond issue is needed, but any single expenditure above $10,000 must be approved by voters.

Free July 4 Pool Day Amid City Plans and Budgets

The Lions club pool offers free swimming July 4 with regular hours 2 to 5 pm and 7 to 9 pm. Admission remains 15 cents for grade school pupils and 25 cents for older students and adults. Lesson classes may run, with registration by July 7. Commissioners seek bids on a $55,000 expansion including a dining room and full basement. The poor fund totals over $38,000 with hopes to fund the project within a 6 mill tax limit. The rest home rents to a private operator. county patients cost $5 daily with 80 percent of net earnings returned to the county.

Prior-Alzheimer Rites Performed At St Joseph's

Donna Prior and Paul J Alzheimer were married in a double ring ceremony at St Joseph's church officiated by Rev Fr Thomas J Gannon. The bride wore slipper satin with a fingertip veil, a white Bible bouquet of pink rosebuds and orchids. Agnes Alzheimer served as maid of honor. Continued on page 8.

Ham couple welcomes daughter born at Conrad Hospital

Mr and Mrs Melvin Ham announce the birth of a daughter on June 29 at Conrad Hospital. The newborn adds to the family, with token congratulations requested from relatives and friends.

Man Charged With Manslaughter in Fatal Wreck Near Bynum

Three men met at the Pioneer bar then drove toward Pendrey after 11 pm. Carrier, who bought the car, had no driver license and reportedly drank at two taverns before the crash. Nelson died instantly when the car left the road three miles north of Bynum at midnight. Schlacht suffered a broken neck but survived. Car speed was described as excessive and the cause of the accident remains unclear.

Teton Memorial Hospital Marks First Anniversary

Teton Memorial Hospital celebrated its first year of operation serving 1,000 residents with 770 admissions 303 outpatients and 110 births, including two sets of twins. The staff comprises 18 full time and 8 part time, with three local doctors and occasional help from three Great Falls physicians. Equipment added since June 28, 1951 opening includes a complete laundry, surgical gear, and nursery bassinets donated by the Soroptimist club. An electrocardiograph is to be ordered. the hospital is operated by Lutheran Hospital and Homes Society and supervised by Lorraine Ice.

Hay Yields Light Despite Rain Boosting Soil Moisture

County Agent Ray Kelly reports light yields for grass and non irrigated hay though conditions have improved overall. Sheep shearing progresses as late seeded spring crops show gains and rainfall of up to 1.5 inches boosts soil moisture across the area.
