The 1951 Montana crop season opened late with a short growing period. Moisture at seeding was adequate but rainfall during growth was light in eastern counties. Wheat output rose 7 percent from last year while other crops declined. potatoes alfalfa seed and sweet clover exceeded average. Harvest occurred on 9,313,000 acres, up 185,000 from last year.
