Weather and travel disruption in the region due to heavy winds and snow

Strong southwest winds and blowing snow paralyzed rural roads and closed many routes across the region. Countless farms faced drifts, schools shut in Teton county, and travel between Great Falls and Chateau was severely delayed. Temperatures swung from 31 above to 6 below zero as a cold wave loomed with more snow expected.

Winter Wheat Seeding Down For This Year

Big West Oil Co reports a Dubois No. 1 well near Pendroy showing 2,266 feet to Ellis Madison contact with oil in porous limestone and initial acid tests yielding 17 barrels of oil per day, with potential to reach 25 to 30 barrels. Drilling continues weather permitting as the field area expands east of Dubois.

Due to bad weather only a small group of Choteau Woman's club members heard Dominic Reed, Choteau high school English teacher, speak Tuesday night at Mrs. Clara Baker's home. Reed, a World War II interpreter in Germany, discussed nationalities and said there is little difference in people.

Titania Replenishes Off Korea As Ammunition Flows Aboard

On the U S S Titania off the east coast of Korea two crews from the ships Snyder and Wilson take part in a replenishment at sea delivering 65 inch projectiles and full powder cases to the USS Moore while deck apes guide cargo nets over the rail. The operation underscores trained teamwork aboard the Titania known as the galloping ghost of the Korean coast as it serves Pusan to Songjin along the 41st parallel.

Deadline Near For Securing 1951 Crop Price Support Loans

Chairman Jake Luinstra of the Teton County PMA cautions farmers the January 31 deadline looms for 1951 crop price support loans. Loans and purchase agreements are now available for wheat barley oats rye flaxseed and hay and pasture seeds. PMA reports rising participation and a likely higher volume of grain under support in Montana than last year.

Memorial Hospital Annual Meeting Set For Monday

Annual meeting of Teton Memorial Hospital Association members is scheduled for Monday night at 8 in the courthouse at Chateau. Dutton Man Serves On U S Destroyer Higbee

Kenneth WN Chevalier fireman USN son of Mr and Mrs Edmond M Chevalier of Dutton served aboard the radar picket destroyer USS Higbee in the Far East. A Dutton high school graduate he entered the navy in December 1950. Higbee conducts anti aircraft and submarine screening with carrier task force 77 and the UN blockading and escort force on its third Korean duty tour.

Hospital Guild Meeting Set at Legion Hall

The Teton County Memorial Hospital guild schedules a meeting next Wednesday January 23 from 2 to 4 p.m. at Legion hall. A Catholic Ladies aid committee will supervise the work unit. One monthly meeting is planned on the fourth Wednesday.

Francis Sullivan among crew of sunken freighter Pennsylvania

Francis E. Sullivan, 31, of Pendroy, was aboard the ill fated 7,800 ton freighter Pennsylvania which sank in a North Pacific storm about 450 miles northwest of Vancouver Island. Debris and an overturned lifeboat were observed. no survivors found. Sullivan was among 46 crewmen, listed as missing as authorities work to confirm the fate of the vessel and its crew.

Mass for James Drinkwine 86 pioneer farmer who died last Sunday in Alder Montana. Rosary Friday evening at St Josephs church. Burial in Choteau cemetery. Mass to Honor Rev. Scheidler Set at Fairfield

Solemn Requiem High Mass will be held at St John the Evangelist church for Rev Father Russell Scheidler former pastor of St Johns parish who died in Greensburg Indiana on Jan 24 last year. He served as pastor 1941 to 1951 and was the first resident pastor. He directed displaced persons work for the Dioceses of Helena and Great Falls and was rural life director for Helena.
