The Choteau Bulldogs lost to Shelby 38 27 after leading by a 15 12 halftime margin but faltering in the fourth quarter with Haschke and Rose unavailable. Schmitz and LeDesky led scoring for Choteau while Rose dominated rebounds as Dellno and Sabo also contributed.

Te ton county hosts four birthday ball dances led by local chairmen with Fred Ritzschke at Power in charge and Vern Paulson's orchestra as a draw. Dutton Lions Club sponsors the Dutton event with Geo Sollid as chair. Choteau and Fairfield also stage dances with local organizers and Ralph Baldani's orchestra at Fairfield. The Choteau event remains pending a coordinator, and the Woman's Club will sponsor the Choteau dance with ticket sales by the club. The date moves to Saturday February 1, instead of January 30.
Work began Monday on a major remodeling of the high school dormitory funded by the National Youth Administration and the State Department of Vocational Education. NYA labor will employ 17 to 25 year olds for 54 hours monthly under Dale Blakely supervision. the basement becomes a farm shop, the second floor a classroom and offices, and the top floor a recreation area with possible kitchen. Training under the national defense program started Wednesday with instructor Harrison Craig.
Lions heard L G Leavitt from Great Northern Railways discuss railroads role in national defense using a chart. He noted railways could handle 25 percent more freight than 1935, actually moving 55 percent more with maintenance. The program also featured Harriet Roholt and the high school quartet.
Dorothy Elizabeth Moore daughter of Agnes Moore and Floyd Byler son of Mr and Mrs J H Byler were married Saturday Jan 11 at 8 pm at the Presbyterian church by Rev H B Jones. Attendants were Mr and Mrs Francis Knechtges. Wedding supper was served at the Knechtges home. Floyd Byler graduated from Chebogee in 1996 and is employed.
Five of six finalists were women led by Mrs Burr Huffman representing Rocky Mountain Elevator who won $3. Charles Huntziker placed second for $2 and Betty Webb third for a dollar. The event drew large local participation, with net receipts $51.80 and a variety of entertainment between heats.
Charles A. Shawver a Pendrey farmer died in a Great Falls hospital last Friday January 10 and funeral services were held at Chateau with Rev R F Vick officiating. Born March 27 1857 in Des Moines Iowa he was orphaned young and chose his own path. He later homesteaded near Pendroy and married Mary Connelly on December 1 1881. Survivors include son Earl W Shawver of Long Beach California and other relatives.
Mrs A J Nutter Red Cross chair man calls executive committee and all members with at least one dollar membership fee to meet tomorrow evening in the Red Cross area at the court house. All who have paid urged to attend and ensure attendance.
The Commodity Credit Corporation offers extensions on 1940 farm stored and elevator stored wheat loans beyond April 30. About 27 million bushels in Montana are under the loan program, including roughly 7 million in farm storage and 20 million in elevator storage. W H Wellenstein, Teton county committee chair, noted extensions apply to farm stored wheat and resealed 1939 grain, with redemption terms and possible CCC delivery if not redeemed.
Two cases were heard in justice court this past week. Floyd Bruno of Bynum admitted guilt to stealing six sheep pelts from his employer and received a 90 day sentence with 60 suspended. Kenneth Boggs faced assault charges and posted $100 bond for appearance. Hi Loomis faced statutory rape proceedings and was bound over with bonds raised to $2,000 but not posted. Joe Brockley was bound over on burglary charges with $1,000 bonds not posted.
Fairfield Irrigators captured the North Central Montana League first-half title by beating Choteau Merchants in two games. Monday at home Fairfield won 46 to 28 as Choteau struggled without the Bleecker brothers and Bud Gillette injured. Tuesday in Fairfield the Irrigators again prevailed 53 to 35, aided by long-range shooting while Choteau’s Le Desky was a bright spot amid a rough night.
Samuel Abe Evans 77, a bachelor, died of a stroke at Choteau hospital last Tuesday night January 14 after eight months as a patient. A Teton county resident for 26 years, he was born in Indiana and homesteaded land near Dutton. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 2 p.m. with burial in Dutton. Rev. M. B. Alstad to officiate.
Ranchers from Choteau area attended the first annual Sun River project livestock tour last Tuesday. Stops included Guy Barsotti farm Vaughn with 169 head on feed, Jenkins Brothers Crowe bench with 70 head, and J A Shoquist Fairfield with 250 lambs. Discussions covered silage, shelter needs, and feeding programs for next year.
Miss Elsie Lindberg county nurse will present tuberculosis pictures next Monday evening at 8 in the courtroom. The public is invited to view the new slides not previously shown in Chateau.
