Births 34 and deaths 35 for 1949 in Teton County with 69 marriages and 12 divorces. Most Montana counties show births over deaths. Teton’s parity due to outside births, notably at Great Falls and Conrad.
A. A. Wells announced approval from the Rural Electrification Administration to extend 138 miles of distribution line, with 48 miles in the ranching area west and northwest of Chateau and other extensions in Augusta Power Dutton and Pendray areas. The project will serve the Titus Harris Guest Ranch and nearby ranches and households along the route, expanding Montana’s largest cooperative network.
The Montana Dakota Utilities Co division manager tells Mayor Sturgis that Chateau has adequate gas and facilities for its expanded population. He notes the Jan 2 cutbacks were maintenance related and a voluntary action by building managers on a holiday. He pledges future investments to keep facilities ahead as Chateau grows.

Kid's Night at Moose Hall resumes next Monday January 16 inviting grade school children to attend. The events are scheduled for every other Monday night thereafter.
Chateau high school Bulldogs travel to Fairfield Friday for their first meeting with the Fairfield Eagles and host the Cut Bank Wolves Saturday in another season opener clash. Earlier, Ruegamer boys dropped two close games, 74 to 67 at Great Falls Central and 40 to 36 at Chinook. Dell scored 32 in the Central loss while Dellwo led Chateau with 13 in the Chinook defeat.
C K Malone a Chateau stockman was elected second vice president of the American National Livestock Association at its week long Miami convention. Loren C Rambert was named president among 1,115 delegates from 39 states. The group adopted resolutions opposing farm programs, supporting grazing reform, funding Nicholson plan, funding western fence projects, and grading beef to aid producers and consumers.
The Legion fell 40 to 37 to Augusta as Krone hit 6 points late to seal the win for the independents. Erickson led the Legion with 9. Power Fireballs edged the Chateau Wheels 49 to 48 behind 15 made free throws, while Wheels were 8 of 15 at the line.
Tesch Sales and Service an Minneapolis Moline dealer will host an entertainment program for farmers and families at the Roxy Theatre on Friday January 20 starting 1 30 pm The event includes two color films This Land of Ours and An American Journey plus Weather Whys with weather stories and U S Weather Bureau cooperation Gifts and door prizes will be awarded and a free lunch is served at noon at the MM showroom
The Collins Community club sponsors a dance Friday night at the Collins Community hall after renovations. Music will be provided by the Happy Four of Chateau and ladies of Collins will serve a lunch at midnight.
Herbert Heilman, sports director of the Loyal Order of Moose, described Mooseheart and Moosehaven as thriving homes for underprivileged children and elderly residents. He noted Mooseheart's value at 40 million dollars, 1240 acres, 200 buildings, its own hospital and dairy, and that 800 children live there until high school graduation.
About 39 county farmers were chosen as community Production and Marketing administration committeemen at a Chateau convention to oversee federal farm programs such as conservation price supports acreage allotments the sugar program and crop insurance. The county committee is led by Jake Luinstra as chairman Roy F. Morgan as vice chairman M B Bolland as regular member with Clarence Phillips and Adam Dahlman as alternates. Herbert W. Heilman Moose sports director and Cecil Swan state director spoke at the Choteau Lions club meeting. They praised Lions efforts on youth recreation and noted a $65 loss on the Christmas tree sale. Rex Peterson was honored as a new father and a box social is set for January 24 at Lions club hall.
The Chateau Women's club announces its regular meeting for Tuesday night January 17 in Lions Club hall at 7 p.m. All members are urged to attend.
The Teton Tavern association met at Chateau to curb underage drinking. Secretary C. E. Russell said the group will compile lists of all minors from county school files and high school graduates from the past three to four years. Information will be exchanged with Brady, Simms and Augusta to restrict sales to minors.
Mr and Mrs Ben Chalmers winners of the 25 prize in the Christmas home decoration contest and Mr and Mrs Bill Arensmeyer winners of the 10 prize donated their prizes to Teton Memorial Hospital. Denzel McDonald hospital association treasurer thanked the couples for their generosity.
