County records show 77 births versus 34 deaths in 1951. In marriages, 63 couples wed while divorces occurred in the county during the year.
The 1951 birth total rose to seven hundred with a rise from forty two in 1950 attributed to the Teton Memorial hospital opening June 28 1951. The State Board of Health noted one fourth of county births occurred outside the county before the hospital. Courthouse records show 175 civil and 14 criminal cases filed in 1951. Deaths listed include local residents and others such as Frank Toeckes Cho teau and Joseph Kinsey Howard Great Falls among many names, with full county statistics compiled from courthouse records.
Ted and Grace Halvorson sold the Chateau Drug Co to Vern Richter of Big Sandy and Paul Carvell of Billings. Richter will continue Big Sky Drug in Big Sandy, while Carvell moves Chateau to Billings. The Rexall store will keep its staff and fountain. Halvorsons plan a vacation and remain in Chateau with a new home.
A new law sets licensing and stenciling rules for trucks, buses, and trailers. Farmers pay 20 percent of commercial rates. penalties apply for exceeding maximum gross weight. Officials note licenses may be issued without stenciling but must be stenciled before use.

Four Masonic bodies including AF and AM Ni No. 5 Royal Arch Masons and Commandery named new officers at a joint meeting held at the Marble. Gordon A. Holmes installed as installing officer and Thomas C. Lis as master. Officers listed include senior warden Lyle H. eEEnior, junior deacon Everattt H. Clark and many others. Continued on Page 5.
The American Legion and its auxiliary invite the public to a joint legislative meeting at Legion Hall Monday January 7 at 8 pm. Debaters from Chateau High School will discuss socialized medicine led by Lyalk Cvar Jr and Richard Swortzel, and E. V. Ombholt will present the Legion's legislative program.

Mrs. Theo Seaton of Fort Shaw was a guest of Mrs. Emily Crary over the New Year weekend, sharing time and hospitality in the household.
The Choteau Bulldogs beat Dutton 30 point game with Bandow 10 Hinman 8 Crary 7 leading scorers. Cardinals’ Smith 15 top the Dutton effort. Bulldogs host Power Pirates in a 7:30 p.m. Friday prelim between B squads.
The Chateau Chamber of Commerce awarded Mr. and Mrs. Robert Ziem $25 for the most attractively decorated home during Christmas. Second prize went to Mr. and Mrs. Ellerd Enderson, $15, and third to Mr. and Mrs. Emil Durr, $5. Judges noted clear first place but debated second and third.
Sydney Anne Forrest daughter of Mr and Mrs William K Forrest of Choteau married Robert M MacIntyre of Anaconda in a Choteau Methodist church ceremony officiated by Rev Harold L Engdahl. The bride wore a white satin gown and carried red roses. A reception followed in the church parlors with family members assisting.
Mrs W H Wrixon 64 of Pasco Wash was killed in a south of Seattle automobile collision on icy U S highway 99 when one car skidded into another. Her mother Mrs Leona Hagan 82 of Pasco also died. Two drivers were hospitalized. The Wrixons moved from Chateau to Pasco in 1946. Their daughter Maris is a Hollywood star and son Bill went to Cho teau high school.
Holy Name Society of Cho tea and Bynum will hold Sunday Mass at St. Joseph's church at 2 am on January 6 followed by a communion breakfast. Patrick See of Carroll College English department will speak on Catholic Literature. Officers listed include Clarence Rose and Joseph Lucier with roles as president and secretary.
Battle veteran Sergeant Joe Hollinshead, longtime Marine, 60 years in service, now visiting friends in the city at Chateau. He left Korea December 5 after heavy action on Heartbreak Ridge and long periods in continuous combat. He plans to enlist for six more years to make a life of service.
Mrs. Nettie M. Hamilton aged 67 of Great Falls died at home after a lengthy illness. She was born near Stanford on September 6, 1884 and was the mother of Dr. Robert S. Hamilton of Chateau. Survived by husband Robert S. Hamilton Sr and her son. Funeral services were held Friday at the W. 4 H. George Co chapel with Rev. R. L. Badgley officiating. Interment in Highland cemetery.
Mr. and Mrs. F. A. Zion were honored at a 40th anniversary party hosted by their son F. L. Zion in Great Falls. Guests included longtime residents from Chateau Fort Benton and Carter. The couple had returned from a two month trip to Indiana and other eastern and southern states with refreshments served in late afternoon.
Corporal Paul Barrett son of Mr and Mrs Edgar Barrett of Chateau was discharged December 17 at Fort Hood Texas after 35 months in the army including six months in Korea. He took part in the Inchon landing Hungnam evacuation and near Taegu before being wounded and evacuated. He later returned home with fellow wounded and criticized U S policy in Asia.
Mrs. Charles Thompson formerly of Dutton now in Great Falls welcomed a timely double grandchild surge. A daughter born December 17 to her son and daughter-in-law David and Mrs. Thompson in Kennewick Washington. A second granddaughter born Sunday to son Orval Bruce Thompson and his wife in Victorville California where he serves with the Montara air national guard.
