Reports from Sun River indicate the elk herd at the Sun River game preserve, the largest outside Yellowstone, is wintering in excellent condition. About 3500 elk with deer, mountain goats and sheep in the preserve. Weather has opened feed on south slopes, reducing losses from cold. Forest Ranger Hendren notes successful two hunter cooperative effort yielding four mountain lions, plus coyotes bobcats and lynx destroyed.
