Gormley Named Superintendent for Choteau Schools

Choteau School Board has chosen Robert W. Gormley, current principal of Choteau Elementary, to become Superintendent of Choteau Schools starting June 1. He succeeds Ed Schiller, who resigned after 16 years in the post. Gormley has a long background in education and leadership roles in state elementary principals groups.

Fairfield Man Fined $50 for Hay Theft

Kemmer Vance of Fairfield appeared before Judge William Irwin and was fined $50 for stealing hay from the Ramaldus Hager ranch in the Fairfield area. Sheriff Albert Becker said he traced the theft from the Hager ranch to the Vance farm after an investigation.

Arena Construction Plans Progressing

About 30 members of the Choteau Roping Club met to discuss building an indoor arena in Choteau. Farrell Rose outlined financing via an FHA loan for an 80 by 240 foot quonset style building with a dirt floor. A committee will locate a site and gather cost estimates. a second meeting is set for Thursday March 6 at 7:30 p.m. at the courthouse in Chateau.

Three Bulls Bring High Average Price at Sale in Great Falls

The Montana Polled Hereford Association’s 15th annual sale in Great Falls on February 20 saw Sunny Slope cattle lead the market. Oliver Forseth and Sons of Fairfield sold three MBPA certified bulls for an average of 1167 dollars as 60 bulls averaged 536 and 17 springing heifers 333. Bids included SSR Polled Sir 58 at 1800 dollars to Henry Meyer of Conrad, SSR Spidom 35 at 850 to Ray Goodwin, and SSR Superollo 16 at 850 to Charles Hanson. Other top entries reached 2000 dollars from Earl Vescovi of Roundup, with Little Beaver Creek Ranch’s Grand Champion bull selling for 1025. The Forseths also sold two Vescovi 512 daughters for 350 and 360 to John Eberald. Sunny Slope will hold its production sale March 24.
