Bulldogs Capture Sub-District Tournament Title At Fairfield
The Choteau Bulldogs defeated the Fairfield Eagles 54 to 46 to win the sub district tourney at Fairfield after easy semifinal wins over Simms and Cascade. Power took third place and Cascade finished fourth as overflow crowds attended each session. The Bulldogs advance toward the district meet in Great Falls with plans to reach the Northern Montana championship in Shelby.

Halvor Daley Named Claims Taker For State Board
H M Daley of Choteau a World War I veteran will serve as half time claims taker for the Montana unemployment compensation commission. He will work Fridays and Saturdays at the American Legion building in Choteau and Mondays in Fairfield to handle readjustment allowances and unemployment claims. Barclay Craighead the commissions chairman announced the program as a cooperative effort with county officials and veterans groups.

Guthrie to Leave Lexington Paper for Freelance Writing
A. B. Guthrie Jr. longtime city editor of the Lexington Leader plans to sever newspaper ties this summer or fall and work as a freelance writer. He aims to finish his second novel, set around Fort Shaw territory and the Baker battle during the Pigeon War of 1870, with plans to visit Northern Montana. His forthcoming work will fictionize the early fur trade and reflect his interest in Montana history.

Son of Former Resident En Route to Canada Visits Here
W H Duke Decoursey son of former Chateau resident W J Decoursey visited the Acantha office. He is part owner and manager of News of the North a weekly on Great Slave Lake Canada the farthest north Canadian publication. The Yellowknife area is described as a gold rush town with 2500 residents and 200 women. News of the North is published 800 miles from any railroad with supplies brought by car train. Decoursey was born at Chateau and recently discharged from the Canadian army where he served as public relations officer.

Cantata Rehearsals Record Growing Choir enthusiasm

The Teton County Cooperative with John Richem plans to erect concrete piers for tanks and an office and store room. Tanks moved from Farmington to Chateau. Richemey construction starts next week. The firm will sell oils greases and gas and will use a tank truck to deliver fuel to farmers. They lease lots 20 and 21 from Great Northern railway just south of Gallatin elevator. new officers include President Earl Hollar and Vice President Louis Bauma.

Frances Otness 39 Dies at Great Falls Farmingtonnative
Frances Lucille Otness of Farmington died February 15 in Great Falls after a brief illness. She was born October 9, 1906, in Starbuck Washington, married Joel B. Otness February 23, 1925, and leaves two sons Ronald and Lyle, her parents Mr. and Mrs. Jason Hitencock, and sister Mrs. Chester Harnden. Funeral services were held at Trinity Lutheran Church with Eastern Star helpers and Pallbearers named.

Ex Marine Major Zuber Joins Choteau Flying Service as Instructor
Major John Zuber of Missoula has been hired this week as a flying instructor for the Choteau Flying Service managed by Bob Waltermire. He is on terminal leave from the Marine Air Corps and will be released from active duty on April 2. Zuber, a veteran dive bomber and torpedo bomber, served in Guadalcanal campaigns in 1942 and 1943 before training at Corpus Christi and serving as landing signal officer. He recently arrived in Choteau to make his residence and completed CAA training at Missoula Johnson Airport.
