Choteau edged Benton Longhorns 25 24 on a last second shot by Bubs Dahlin to reach the Northern Division tournament. The district winners advance to divisional play March 7 to 9 in four Montana cities with four Class A spots vying for Bozeman March 21 to 23. Finalists from districts 9-12 head to Shelby for Class B action alongside champions from 9 through 12.
Chateau post office invites bids for a new star mail route extending toward Teton Canyon serving about 50 families. Bid deadline March 28 covers July four years, bond $1100, service twice weekly nine months and thrice weekly in summer. Route starts 9:30 am from Chateau to Twin Lakes Corner and Bellview, returning by 3:30 pm.
Work progresses on Chateau’s new fire truck. M W Lawton of Howard-Cooper says delivery likely within 30 days. Gauges for the pump are being installed. The city commits 4500 dollars for the vehicle.
County campaign chairman C W Burns announced total county contributions of 1 048 16 for the March of Dimes drive ending Jan 31. Half stays locally, half goes to the National Foundation for Infantile Paralysis. county fund in Citizens State Bank now 2 498 30 including prior years. Funds aided six Teton polio victims with one hospitalized patient recovering fully after treatment at Camas Hot Springs.
Cut Bank Wolves visit the Bulldog lair this Saturday for the last home game of the season. The Teton quintet had fallen 30 to 38 at Cut Bank earlier. Chateau begun the district championship strong, holding Benton 14 to 4 in the first period and leading 19 to 10 at halftime, then the Bulldogs stalled in the third quarter.
The Young Timers decide to host a dance and possible banquet at the Masonic hall on March 30. Members 21 and older who are children of Old Timers may attend with partners. A signed register is required and a detailed committee list follows.
Two bank officials attended a Helena Federal Reserve meeting and returned to Cho teau Saturday evening. The event featured displays of local industries including log sig operations, saddles, marble, and other state products as bankers toured the exhibits.
An enthusiastic crowd of over 200 at Fairfield met to plan a Fairfield Beach health center. Sterling DePrata led the meeting as plans to raise 15000 dollars were announced from Fairfield and adjacent areas. The group seeks an option from Dr. Lyle Crary to buy his offices and add to the building. If this fails a new building will be started. The center would provide patient diagnoses and some treatment.
The Ametiar Pegion Auxiliary held a Saturday bake sale and food sale to aid the Teton memorial hospital fund. Net proceeds totaled 3165 from case sales door receipts and solicited funds, reflecting generous local support.
Tonight the Teton County Sportsmen's Association holds a courthouse meeting at 8 PM led by secretary treasurer Earl Hollar. The group will outline plans to plant, fish and bring birds into the county and seek new members with $1 annual cards.
