Nine year old Mark Kruno Jr. found a dirt coated pebble that proved to be a genuine Roman coin from Hadrian’s reign 117 to 138. Smithsonian experts say the coin is in poor condition and worth one or two dollars with uncertain origins for how it reached the Rocky Mountain site. The coin bears Hadrian’s bust on the obverse and a female figure with the letters SC on the reverse, indicating senatus consultum.
County commissioners meet at the courthouse at 2 00 p m on Wednesday March 5 to hear and determine the petition seeking transfer of Sections 4 5 6 7 8 9 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 29 and 30 Township 22 North Range 4 West from School District No 21 to School District 1 and issue a final determination.
Harry Luinstra discovered a large chromium weather recording device in a field by the river. The instrument, released from Great Falls at 10 40 p m on February 7, rises to twelve miles, records atmospheric data, and broadcasts on 73 2 megacycles. The finder is instructed to return it to the U S Weather Bureau in Washington for a $1 reward.
Plans move forward to begin a Lutheran church building with five lots south of the Methodist church. Excavation for the basement is expected next week, with total cost between four and five thousand dollars and basement about eight hundred. About three hundred fifty dollars has been pledged, and a pastor is sought to begin by July while Rev. A B Holland of Fairfield oversees services.
William Emerick proprietor of Emericks Studio and Mrs F M Kaupish of Pendroy married last Sunday morning in a ceremony performed by Justice J G Jackson. The couple honeymooned in Great Falls and returned Wednesday. Both have lived in the area since 1910 with Mrs Kaupish ranching near Pendroy for years.
W H Wellenstein notes crop insurance growth in Teton County for 1939 40 and urges farmers with spring wheat to enroll for 1941 before February 28. A free Triple A movie will be shown at the high school auditorium Monday February 24 at 1 30 p m with public invited.
Reserve players carried the attack as Chateau routed Highwood 52 to 9 in the District 10 Class B tournament at Great Falls. The game opened 7 to 4 and 16 to 6 at halftime, with Chateau’s reserves stepping up while officials refereed dual games on adjacent floors.
Mrs Alice Jane Stott 68 died February 13 at her home near Bynum after a year long illness from cancer. The Latter Day Saints pastor Frank George presided at the February 15 service at Bynum. Burial followed in Meadow Utah. Survivors include sons George O Bert LeRoy and Harry all of Bynum and daughters M E Bushnell and B Brunson of Meadow Utah. Six grandsons 16 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren also survive with several brothers and many relatives attending from Idaho Utah and Montana.
Mrs Alma Semingsen died last Thursday after a long illness in Anard hospital. Funeral services were held Monday at St Luke church. She is survived by her husband Sever two sons Raymond and Billy four sisters two brothers and her father Joe Seifert. Burial will be in Towner North Dakota.
The Teton County High School Band directed by Irshal Davis will perform Friday night at the tournament and broadcast on KFBB at 6:15 p m. The Monarch Lumber sponsors the trip.
Chateau battled Cascade in a close game with strong defense and accurate shooting. The box score shows solid contributions from LeDesky Dellwo and Schoen, as Cascade eyes a rematch if Chateau wins. Other scores include Fort Benton 41 Belt 16 and St Marys 41 Ft Shaw 13.
Mrs. H A Ogline a Chateau resident for seven years died at Maynard hospital Sunday February 16 at 655 pm after years of illness. She born Eva Catherine Opperman July 18 1862 in Davis Illinois later moved to Ackley Iowa married Harvey A Ogline May 6 1884. The family lived in Mott North Carolina Parkersburg and Waterloo Iowa before moving to Cut Bank Montana in 1928. For twelve years they operated the Kiowa Tourist Ramp at Glacier Park entrance. She was a Deaconess in the Congregational church long active in the Woman's Relief Corps and Royal Neighbors of America. Survived by husband two daughters Edna and Mrs Elda Becker one son Earl and a grandson Donald Becker. Preceded in death by four brothers and a sister and a grandson Dean Beck. Funeral arrangements at Mortuary in Great Falls and Maus.
