Pendroy Pioneer and Jim Hill Associate Dies in California

Levi Bootes Pendroy of Pendroy North Dakota 93 longtime early homesteader and Great Northern railroad builder associate of Jim Hill died January 25 in Long Beach California and was entombed February 2 at Angels Abbey Mausoleum. Pendroy helped survey for Jim Hill and slept under trees during hard times. survivors include three daughters Swella Pendroy Patricia Milton and Myrtle Carswell.

Governor announces 2000th Montana National Guard recruit

Governor J Hugo Aronison announced Clarence A Carlson Jr of Choteau became the 2000th Montana National Guard member. Carlson, a Korean War veteran, was enrolled Feb 10, 1954, as a Set of Company F 1163rd Armored Cavalry.

Two Accidents Reported Over Past Week End

Donald W. O'Brien Cho teau insurance salesman was injured in a late Friday motor car wreck near the Teton river bridge east of Choteau. He was treated for a broken collar bone and other injuries and released Tuesday. A second crash near Flume involved Jerry Gunther of Chateau on icy highway conditions with damage to the vehicle estimated at about 400 dollars.

Local Masonry Hosts Vic Overcash Address

Vic Overcash of Cut Bank will speak at the Masonic auditorium on Wednesday February 24 at 845 pm. A past department commander of the American Legion he backs experience and plans to answer questions from the floor after his talk. Former Resident Buried Monday At Great Falls

Funeral services were held for 80 year old Thomas A. Halvorson a former Chateau resident. He died in Helena hospital last Friday. Rites conducted in Great Falls by Rev Marvin Adams with Masonic and Shrine involvement. Survivors include daughter Mrs C E Borsheim Great Falls and son L A Halvorson Walla Walla Washington. Burial in Highland Cemetery.

Teton Bond Quota Set at $170,000

The Teton county E and H government bond quota for the first quarter of 1954 is set at 170000. Montana quotas total 28600000 for 1954 with first quarter at 8894000. Frederick T. Hubbard named Montana director of sales succeeding Arthur Nelson.

V E W Presents Old Time Minstrel Show Planned

The Howard BE. Anderson Post No 4605 VFW and Auxility plan an old-time Minstrel Show and Revue on April 22 and 23. Featured acts include Huthie Hopper Great Falls Spec Holmes Conrad Johnny Peterson Choteau and Chick Sulgrove Choteau with a chorus of about 20 voices and multiple specialty acts. John Peterson directs the production with Chick Sulgrove as general chairman. Marge Hanusa leads the chorus and dance specialties.

Police Court Records Show Fines For Traffic Violations

Justice J M Suigrove heard cases where D W O Brien forfeited for reckless driving and L Jensen paid 10.00 for improper plates. Larry Bruno paid 1000 for speeding and no proper license. Si Van DePtet got 10 days for drunk and disorderly. Dan Sullivan 10 fine for drunk and disorderly. Larry Fuller 125 for driving under the influence. Justice William Irwin's court set bonds and fines for R A Larkin Jr for check charges, Lloyd Leobs 25 with 30 day suspended sentence for worthless check, Gary Gobert and Tom Nolan 25 each for inducing a minor to drink. Pat Mills bond 300 to appear Friday.

Big Sandy Pharmacist Temporarily Hired at Local Drug Store

Kenneth Rickert of Big Sandy, a registered pharmacist and 1952 Montana State University School of Pharmacy graduate, is temporarily employed at Chateau Drug Co. while Ted Halvorson is on a buying trip. Rickert is a Navy veteran with European service. Halvorson’s return will restore Rickert as full-time pharmacist until mid March.

Pioneer Lady Eva Krofft Dies After 89 Years in County

Funeral services were held for Eva Krofft 89 who died February 14 after years of illness. Born July 5 1864 in Candor New York she moved to Teton county in 1892 with husband George Krofft and helped operate mills and freight lines. Survivors include two daughters 11 grandchildren 19 great grandchildren and three great great grandchildren. Burial was in the Chateau cemetery.

Farmington Unit Backs Federal Aid Route 220 to Conrad

The Farmington unit of the Teton County Farm Bureau unanimously supports a proposed Federal Aid Secondary Route linked from Chateau Fairport to the Pendrey-Con Ted road and onward to the county line. A road count shows heavy traffic and the route is billed as the shortest direct link between Choteau and Conrad, with resolutions to present to county commissioners.
