Francis LaFrance married Tuesday in Great Falls to Miss Fannie McKenzie. The bride, newly arrived in the area, was staying with her mother at the Cascada ranch. Friends extend warm congratulations and happiness to the couple.
In Dupuyer Montana FH FEDERHEN U.S. Commissioner is appointed Justice of the Peace and Votary Public for the town. The move elevates local authority in civil matters and public records.
Senate promotes Lieut Peary to rear admiral for polar discovery while Theodore Roosevelt is discussed as a potential Antarctic leader. Government classifies forest lands and eliminates 4 million acres, Glacier National Park legislation passes senate, and coal fraud probes widen at Lander Wyoming. Taft defends square deal in New York. U.S. imports stun with coffee over a billion pounds in 1909, tea over a hundred million, spirits and wines over $26 million led by Europe and Asia.
Bynum hosts visitors Bynum Breezes D J Feland and W D Jones plan to feed a string of Montana raised mules. D J Sharp of Malta lists his ranch for sale. Mrs Sabados returns from Helena while Mrs C G Monkman hosted a luncheon for Mesdames Porter Hightower and Hammer.
The Modgskiss corrals at Chateau hosted a large horse auction led by John Rohner and Paul Jacobson with 58 head sold. Buyers from across the county attended as well bred, halter broke stock showed strong demand and some horses changed hands multiple times at rising prices. A larger sale with heavier mares is planned for Saturday Feb 26 with expectations of an even better selection and crowd.
A Saturday night dance at Ben Hangon’s attracted a large Fairfield crowd. J.13 Maurer and family visited Power, Dutton and Collins earlier in the week. Mrs. I. M. Anderson and others toured Choteau and Fairfield school events before overnighting at Cole Bros. ranch.
Fish Lake John Chage circulates a petition to place a post office west of Dupuyer near the mountains. David Howe relocates his family from Dupuyer to the mountains near Geo. Daviss house at the summit for health reasons. Mr. Cody nears completion of a Moccasin flat school house. Jerry McCarthy runs a thriving Moccasin flat butcher shop supplying settlers. Bert Embody recovers from a long illness. Bill Gordon visits Augusta. Joe Embery’s wife was ill but is now recovering. Nate Howe expects 25 cents per wool clip next season, hoping to grow taller than peers. Will Bushin learns Chippewa ancestry and seeks care from Uncle Sem.
A telegram to Register J. M. Burlingame announced a 90 day suspension of the September 17 1907 circular requiring Great Falls and other US land offices to prepare entry applications. The move eases clerical load amid daily filings and will shift preparation to applicants, with local land brokers aiding claimants from outside the district. More than 600 filings occurred in the first 10 days, and February is expected to break records.
Helena Mont January 15 1910. Leon Shaw Montana census supervisor receives word from E Dana Durand director at Washington that rural census work will be paid six dollars per day. Cities pay per capita later. Rural enumerators cover eight hour days. cities have no hour limit. Fire maps aid city checks to locate all structures where people sleep. An exchange system will route employed residents to the correct enumerator.
Washington February 16 1910 census officials decide to include the number and value of cattle horses and other livestock on the ranges of Western states in the Thirteenth Decennial Census beginning April 15. Assistant Director William F Willoughby and chief statisticians explain that data will be kept confidential by oath and penalties. data collected will not be shared with county assessors or Forest Service.
Farmington notes show Miss Clara Ogard of Solid visiting friends on the bench. Mr. Mikleson of Walier led services for several evenings last week. Misses Sella and Blanche Peter gon hosted Luther League Thursday. Miss Syse, Collins post mistress assistant, is on the bench this week. Rev. Lunde traveled from the falls Saturday returning Monday. Agnes Thorud and Josie Peterson went to Fairfields Saturday. Peterson returned Sunday with Tomina Thorud who will visit Mrs. L. Nasset.
A new fixtures set upgrades the Browning post office as it reports steady progress. John Merchant's blacksmith shop is under way and expected to finish in a week or ten days. A severe snow storm hit the area on Monday. Pilling and Barton from the Canadian side recovered a herd of branded horses in Milk River country. two young suspects are jailed on related charges. A Hall's eating house nears completion and plans to open in ten days or two weeks.
The Acantha publishes legal notices of resignations by W. W. Withee secretary treasurer and A. M. Yourtellotte vice president of Conrad Land and Water Co. This follows a company reorganization. Withee is understood to become vice president of the company.
News notes contemplate incorporationfor the state. The Northern Pacific will finish the double track between Billings and Huntley. The state fair plans a building for a winning exhibit. Snow covers Montana and the West. About 20 000 acres east of Helena will be colonized into 160 acre farm units. The 2 year old daughter of W W Bean burned to death in Red Lodge. Charter Day at the state university on February 18 with Chas R Leonard as orator. Miners and engineers unions threaten Butte mine shutdowns over an oiler discharge. Crows oppose opening their reservation to settlement. Extension courses expand to Billings Butte and Bozeman with lectures in Bozeman and Deer Lodge. University urged to extend to more cities amid civic support.

Visitors include Jate Seibert of the Great Falle Meat Co and mule buyer Morroe who stopped by Salmond Lane and Miller ranches before returning to Great Falls. The item also lists local visits, a birthday note for Lincoln, heavy Belleview mail, and ongoing wolf predation on calves with trappers unable to trap them.
