Street Sign Cost Estimate Told at Meeting

Complete cost estimates for the street signs project in Choteau were outlined by Eddie Howard at the Lions club meeting. The project would cost about 1,431 dollars with 217 poles 1,950 numerals and 434 signs, funded by a mix of city planning and voluntary contributions.

Girl Injured At Helena In Car Wreck

Florence Adamski an 18 year old Choteau hospital employee was injured when a 1949 sedan driven by Ray Schneider of Augusta lost control in Helena. Adamski suffered a broken right leg and cuts while Schneider had chest injuries. The car slid 138 feet struck a power pole and rested 12 feet beyond impact. the pole broke in half and extensive front end damage occurred.

Fire Destroys McDonald Family Garage and Home

A noon fire leveled Bob's Garage in Pendroy, owned by Mr and Mrs Robert McDonald, destroying tools, equipment, clothing, and most possessions. Only a few items and a rescued welding machine survived. fire insurance covered little due to high rates from water shortages. A charity shower is planned Friday at 2 pm and a benefit dance with the Happy Four orchestra is set for Saturday night at the Golden Slipper hall to aid the family.

Hospital Drive Meet Aims to Fund Teton Memorial

Representatives from 23 Chateau organizations meet Friday night at the courthouse to plan a fund drive for the Teton Memorial hospital. The drive seeks full funds by March 1 to equip the building, with completion expected in April and openings timed for early spring. Bryan Corbett & Sons donate a prize steer for auction on March 4 with donations sought via Ed Obernolte at the Coast to Coast store.

Enumerators named for Choteau census district training

Walter H. Marshall announces selected decennial census enumerators for Teton county including Olga Monkman Irene Dauwalder Lillian Knutson Elmer Omhollt Harry Van DeReit and others. Cars Wrecker in Auto Crash North of City

A double wreck occurred on the highway north of Choteau last Saturday night. Ben Shelmerdine rolled his car, a wrecker from Hanson Brothers assisted, then another car owned by Bert Reimer driven by Bud Taylor struck the wrecker. Bruises were reported among occupants of the Reimer car.

PTA Basket Social Raises 141.85 for Band Uniforms

The Chateau PTA raised 141.85 at a Valentine’s night basket social in Legion hall to help buy high school band uniforms. Officials praised the turnout and thanked Walter Marshall for auctioneering, noting a total needed of at least 1,500 dollars and plans for more benefits including a March carnival.

Annual Meeting of Chateau Chamber of Commerce Slated

Chateau Chamber of Commerce will hold its annual dinner meeting next Tuesday Feb 21 at Lions club hall. President Ed Obernolte announced the banquet starts at 6 30 p.m with dinner at 125 per plate. A O Reiquam Dies at 62 in Great Falls Hospital

Alvin O. Reiquam a 62 year old retired Collins farmer and well known resident died early this morning after suffering a heart attack yesterday and another believed attack. Funeral arrangements are pending with services to be held at Trinity Lutheran church after Sunday conducted by Rev A Bernard Gravdal. He is survived by wife Mable daughter Lila and three sons Eldon Leslie and Howard. Reiquam recently was elected treasurer of Trinity Lutheran congregation at Choteau. Judge R M Hattersley of Conrad will be in Choteau tomorrow for law and motion day.

Pet Owners Urged to Buy Dog Cat Tags in Chateau

City hall has dog and cat licenses. Dog tags cost 2 dollars for male and neutered males and 5 dollars for females. Cats wear bells costing 50 cents. The city plans to terminate all unlicensed animals due to stray numbers. Bicycle racks near the post office, Chateau Drug, and Roxy theater welcome use, with fines for damages.
