In Choteau district 1 voters face a special bonding election this Saturday to authorize an additional $80,000 for a new grade school. If approved, bids already opened this week will fund a 12 room building with cafeteria on the old dormitory site, start of construction to follow promptly.
The Chateau VFW perch fish derby moves to Sunday at Bynum reservoir from 8 am to 3 pm after last Sunday’s blizzard forced a postponement. Admission is 1 and 70 percent of gate goes to prizes in men women and boys divisions. Angelo Tremalli won 60 percent of net gate with a 1 lb 3 oz perch.
Mr and Mrs John S Lane announce their son John Jr has been assigned to the 400th Engineer Special Brigade and stationed at Fort MacArthur San Pedro California He departed Chateau Jan 11 1951 for military training and his address is Fort MacArthur San Pedro California 1st Prov Bn Barracks 47.
The Choteau Lions Club partners with Cooperative Contact Co. to supply aluminum street signs and four inch red illuminated house numbers. About 60 percent of residents have donated. 40 percent remain to cover full city deployment, with plans to install 60 percent now and finish once others pay.
Bud Guthrie formerly of Chateau writes a screenplay in Hollywood adaptation of Jack Schaeffer’s western novel Shame for Paramount Pictures. He earns 1500 dollars weekly and expects six to ten weeks, staying at the Beverly Hills hotel and commuting to Faramount studio daily. His wife Harriet remains in Lexington Kentucky, possibly joining later. Guthrie has met Howard Hawks, director of a film at Cut Bank and Lewistown, and recalls Choteau and Lexington fondly.
The Choteau area taxpayers association plans to appeal a district court ruling against blocking the Choteau high school addition. The appeal, filed in Helena, targets the bonding election case with the Montana Supreme Court. Plaintiffs remain the same as in the district suit.
A truck rammed into six parked vehicles near Choteau injuring or damaging ten autos and a 1956 Studebaker. Driver C. L. Connole of Conrad faced a $360 fine, license revocation, and a third offense after midnight Saturday wrecks. Damages totaled about $3,000.
The Teton county selective service board resumed drafting for military service after weeks of inactivity awaiting guidance on Hutterite induction. State legislature considers conscientious objector service rules. Next Tuesday six local men will report for physicals at Butte: Jacob Blok, Albert Blockeel, Arnold Hanson, Leslie Baker, Robert Van Bolcum, and Harry Thorn.
Mrs. Fred Woodward of Chateau is a patient at the Columbus hospital in Great Falls.
Jim Pendroy longtime resident of Pendroy area died in Long Beach California. Funeral services were held February 7. He is survived by two sons Floyd and Claude and a daughter Mrs. Harry Wilson. Brother L B Pendroy also survives. He lived near Pendroy before WWI and later resided in Long Beach. His former home is now occupied by Marlin Rose.
Army Sgt. Oliver M. Fields, brother of Oscar W. Fields of Fairfield, previously listed missing in action, has been reported killed in Korea, ending a long uncertainty for his family.
Rev. Robert J. Vebeck of Wolf Point died in a two car crash on U S highway 91 near the Teton bridge six miles north of Dutton. A coroner's jury blamed his own negligence as he drove on the wrong side of the road. He was 33 and pastor of the Wolf Point Presbyterian church.
The Dale Implement Company in Choteau and Dutton Farmers Machinery will host a free community entertainment week. On Monday February 19 at 2 pm the Roxy theatre in Chateau, and on Tuesday February 20 at 2 pm the Dutton theatre will feature educational movies and on stage acts. Performers include comedy team Roberta Mack and Little Roberta, Valentine’s pet parade, contortionist Marchelle, and accordionist Steve Karr. The event targets residents of both towns and is strictly entertainment.
Dorothy Carolina Wold Hynes wife of Buck Hynes of Elgin dies. Funeral held February 7 at Nazarene church with Rev McKee and Rev Newall officiating. Out of town relatives include her parents Mr and Mrs Jack Wold of Tacoma sister Denamay and Mr and Mrs Bill Swandbeck of Spokane. Survived by Buck and children Nancy Denny and Lindy. Daniels Mortuary of LaGrande directed burial in Elgin Cemetery.

The system heats floors and surfaces, requires no pipe replacement, saves space, and offers comfort and health benefits. Economic and structural advantages are noted alongside extensive district review led by Supt R C Graham.
Montana highway patrol warns today is the final day to obtain 1951 drivers licenses and automobile and truck license plates. Enforcement begins tomorrow as vehicle owners must carry both plates and licenses. County Treasurer Loretta Anderson reports January totals and compares year over year, noting higher registrations and January auto tax receipts in Teton County.

Eligible individuals should contact Albert Lister, service officer for the Veterans Welfare Commission, Rocky Mountain Building, Great Falls, or see him at the courthouse in Choteau on Wednesdays.
Choteau meets Fort Benton in the divisional class B tournament opener at Great Falls next week. The event runs Thursday through Saturday at the Catholic Central gym. The opening game is set for 8 p m on Thursday February 22 with potential follow ups including Fairfield or Shelby outcomes and a title game Saturday February 24 at 9 p m.
