Scouts Earn Recognition At Court of Honor Anniversary

The 41st Court of Honor of the Teton Sun River district was held at the Fairfield hot-lunch room with Leo Murphy presiding. Troops 42 Augusta 43 Dutton 51 Chateau and 56 Fairfield earned awards. second class went to multiple scouts, first class to several, and Troop 42 Augusta won the Boy's Life banner for 100 percent sales.

Dutton Cardinals Sweep Conference With Win Over Augusta

The Dutton Cardinals defeated Augusta Selks 65 53 to complete an undefeated district class C conference run. Dutton finished 16 of 17 regular games with Harper leading scorers on 24 points followed by Luck and Augusta's Austin with 19 and Parker 18.

First Annual Bynum Derby Draws About 400 Anglers

About 400 fish were landed in the first annual Bynum Derby at the reservoir last Sunday. A pony edition was held a week earlier but weather blocked its success. 335 tickets were sold with 60 percent of net proceeds going to cash prizes totaling 180 dollars after expenses. Grand prize of 90 dollars went to James Ritter of Great Falls for a 1 pound 7 ounce perch. Harold Severson of Brady won men’s first prize, 30 dollars, for a 1 pound 34 percent ounce fish.

Dellwo Finally Flies to Alaska After Holdover

Jim Dellwo of Chateau finally reached Anchorage Alaska to referee an armed forces basketball tournament after a delayed Army transport. Dellwo, joined by Nick Mariana Tony Dalich and Tom Radick, waited at Great Falls air base as a War priorities shipment bumped him off. The quartet planned to return to Great Falls by Army plane this Sunday when the games end.

Magpie drive approved by Tetén County Sports men

The Tetén County Sports men's association met February 14 to plan a magpie drive from April 15 to June 15. A motion to pay 10 cents for old magpies, 5 cents for young, and 2 cents for eggs passed unanimously. Volunteers will count and accept magpies in various locations.

Bond Election Falls Short as Turnout Fails to Meet 40 Percent

In the Choteau district voters cast 160 for and 102 against a special bond measure, total 262, below the 280 needed for 40 percent turnout. Previous bond efforts raised 190000 last year, with 80000 more sought to reach 262335. bids by Van Teylingen Knight and Van Teyelingen for a new school were accepted, including Beaulaurier for construction, Flynn’s Electric for wiring, and Mehl Plumbing for fixtures after a near six hour meeting with locals urging approval.

Eight More Men Called By Board For Service Exams

Eight more men have been ordered by the Teton county selective service board at Choteau to report for military service physical examinations in Butte. They are John Louis Ober of Fairfield, Albert Oscar Graff of Choteau, Harold Bouma of Choteau, Charles Lin Fellers of Choteau, Alfred John Menghiri of Power, Fred James Larson of Fairfield, Donald Arthur Merganthal of Fairfield, and Kenneth Lorrain Dirkes of Power. The group will report next Tuesday, February 27.
