Precautionary Fire Measures Considered by City Dads

City council discussed recommendations from the Chateau Fire Dept. for fire safety. Proposals include banning burning garbage behind the Masonic Odd Fellow halls site, removing rear Larson building garbage, prohibiting garage driveway parking, and requiring screens or covers on incinerators and garbage containers in the inner fire zone.

Green Elected Hall President At Sunny Slope

B R Green was re elected president of the Golden Ridge Community hall at its annual meeting in Sunny Slope. Elmer Pearson Emil Jackson Max DeYoung and Vear Stott were elected directors with Reece Silve as secretary treasurer. The group plans a new hall and will raise funds via Acantha subscriptions sold by Sunny Slope schoolchildren.

Thirteen members of the C. James Smith American Legion post of Chateau were initiated at Legion hall last Saturday in formal ceremonies. New initiates include Elbert N. Postmaster C Gibson Monkman reports Chateau Montana postal business has nearly doubled in 14 years with 1947 December stamp sales at 2082.56 and 10 day Christmas cancellation total at 41830. Annual figures climb from 8082.78 in 1934 to 14157.38 in 1947, reflecting steady growth and the town awaiting potential federal building.

Ten Below Zero Sets Week’s Harsh Weather Mark

Frigid temperatures dominated the week with readings at Chateau minus 10 Sunday and Monday, plus 2 Tuesday morning, minus 7 last night. Blizzard squalls disrupted travel Tuesday and Wednesday, with several cars stuck on Choteau streets as hard snow banks hindered country roads.

Mrs Olga Hansen Buried at Dutton After Service

Mrs Olga Hansen aged 58 mother of Mrs John M Johnson of Choteau was buried in Dutton cemetery after an 11 am service at the Dutton Lutheran church conducted by Rev A B Gravdal of Choteau. Mrs Clarence Hebtner sang and Mrs Glen Hansen played the organ. She had lived in Canada for 45 years and died January 7 in Falun Alberta.

52 Residents Afflicted in Teton County X-ray Report

A mobile X-ray unit found 52 residents in Teton County with tuberculosis or serious body defects. Of 3,203 residents scanned, 3,198 yielded good images, 52 showed conditions, and 11 were non-TB pathology. Letters will prompt medical exams, with follow ups if neglected. Continued on page five.

Obernolte to Attend Coast-to-Coast Meet in Minneapolis

Coast-to-Coast Stores Central Organization will host over 525 store owners at the Nicollet hotel in Minneapolis from February 8 to 11. Ed Obernolte, owner of the Chateau Coast-to-Coast store, will travel to attend. The meeting gathers store owners wives and COI members with manufacturers and suppliers to review new merchandise, display techniques, and newspaper advertising importance.

Women to Receive Red Cross Class Awards in 1948

The first 1948 Red Cross Care of the Sick class in Teton county completed with a 100 percent course pass. Certificates will be presented to ten named county women, with classes three days a week for two weeks in the courthouse at Chateau.

VEW Turkey Shoot Benefits Teton Memorial Hospital

Choteau Veterans of Foreign Wars will donate all proceeds from Sunday's turkey shoot to the Teton Memorial Hospital association. The event at Golf Course Hill starts at 11 a.m. with two traps, winners receive birds, and all prizes and entry fees support the hospital. Shooting may last all day if weather allows.

Concordia College Band to Play Sunday at Fairfield

ACA Committeemen Attend PMA Convention at Great Falls

Bolland of Dutton at a PMA convention in Great Falls last Wednesday and Thursday.
