Work began Monday on updating key water mains in the city under a cooperative agreement with the Works Progress Administration. The first section is Second Avenue Southwest, with total costs about 31 000 dollars split between WPA labor 16056 dollars and city materials 14748 dollars.
Senator T. O. Larson of Teton county met in Chateau on Monday to discuss arrangements for the state woolgrowers convention banquet in January. Larson will serve as toastmaster and returned home late in the afternoon. Roads in his area were reported dry.
The Teton Bulldogs went .500 on the week, beating Augusta 19 to 15 and losing to Conrad 19 to 18. Star play by N Rosengren and steady shooting helped the team, while Cole led Teton in the Augusta game with 12 points and Cunniff paced Augusta with 20. The Teton girls also played Augusta, dropping a 33 to 23 decision.
Christmas programs fill Chateau classrooms as the district shuts for the holidays and plans to reopen January 5. Principal Guthrie treats high school students with candy while grade teachers organize coin gifts for the Montana Children's Home raising 14 dollars.

D W Hutchinson reports slim chances for Teton county boys to enter January CCC enrollment as 54 slots are set for the state. Five local applications exist but acceptance outlook remains poor. Dr H C Watts of Fort Harrison says no CCC enrollment in January 1938 for Montana veterans. pending applications will be carried until the next period.
Two local sheepmen protest dog predations from dogs running at large at night. Hugh Robinson estimates about 49 sheep lost and Ile Duits around 20. Nine sheep were found dead, others driven into the river. Coffey Bros report extra precautions to protect their flock from this pest.
Montana officials announced after a conference in Pocatello with Ira N. Gabrielson of the biological survey that the state seeks a 45 day duck hunting season next year. They hope to start around October 15 and run to mid November if the spring hatch merits it, with no season starting before October 10 and ending after January 1.
F. F. A. youth group at Teton chapter Fr I A under instructor H. A. Winner collected and repaired Christmas toys, delivering a dozen boxes to the Red Cross to aid 40 or more families. Miss Margaret Nagle, Red Cross president, praised the effort and anticipates widespread distribution with help from Boy Scouts and other groups.
Greenfield district farmers faced a first time assessment for government construction and ongoing maintenance charges. Construction paid $6,209.70 of $9,125 due by Nov 30, while maintenance payments totaled $10,553.60 of $13,794.80. Funeral services were held Saturday at 1 p m at the Methodist church for W W Smith proprietor of the Chateau creamery who died suddenly last Wednesday morning The ceremony drew one of the largest funeral gatherings in Chateau with attendees from across the county Rev R F Vick praised his community service and cheery whistle as the procession moved to Great Falls for Masonic rites at the mausoleum Charles G Roberts of the Roberts Funeral home directed the services no flowers were requested but emblems from Choteau Tetons club Masonic lodge Fidelity chapter O E S and Royal Arch Masons were sent
