Choteau Men In North Korea Reunion Near Miss

Bobby Scott of Choteau with army MPs in Korea missed a meeting with Paul Barrett of Choteau in Hungham Korea. Barrett arrived minutes before Scott’s outside perimeter assignment. Both are believed moved from the Hingham beach head amid recent evacuations. Barrett’s unit reached evacuation center safely with no casualties and the letter reached Chateau in five days.

Choteau Girls Start Training as Nurses

Sylvia Hanson and Greta Swanson, both of Choteau, among 23 student nurses in the Montana State College nursing school Deaconess division, received caps at a capping ceremony in Great Falls. They joined the 1933 class entering the Great Falls Deaconess Hospital after preliminary college work, Swanson from Montana State College and Hanson from Northern Montana College, schools cooperating with the MSU nursing program.

Dutton Cardinals narrowly top Choteau Bulldogs in late rally

The Dutton Cardinals edged the Choteau Bulldogs 50 to 48 at the Choteau gym after scoring in the final seconds. Floyd Marr of the Bulldogs led scorers with 30 points.

Baker Named As Defense Post Successor

J Lynn Baker of Choteau will become director of civilian defense for Choteau after current director Joe Anderson is called to active military service. Anderson, a reservist, has been notified he will be asked to report for duty but has not yet received orders. He hopes for assignment with the army paratroopers from the last war.

Fairfield Boy Dies of Wound From Shooting

Barton Tracy a 12 year old of Fairfield died Sunday en route to a Great Falls hospital after being accidentally shot in the chest by Sgt Milton Beck of the Great Falls air base while target practicing near the Tracy home. The boys were playing on ice nearby when the line of fire struck Barton. Beck rushed him to hospital with Police escort. Burial was in Highland cemetery Great Falls. Survivors include his parents two sisters Warren F Reid grandfather Price Utah and several aunts and uncles. Services were held yesterday at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Great Falls.

Dede Wilson daughter of Clyde Wilson of Choteau won first prize in a coloring contest held by Sears Roebuck at Great Falls. The seventh grade pupil earned a new girls bicycle as top prize in the Christmas figures contest.

Legion Plans Toy Collection After Christmas

The James Smith Post of the American Legion at Chateau will run a post Christmas toy drive for the Tide of Toys project to aid children in Europe and the Philippines and Puerto Rico. Toys can be brought to the Chateau Legion building or mailed after December 26 to Lewis K. Gough in Pasadena. donations accepted until January 20.

Turkeys Awarded At Hill Trap Club Shoot

About 25 turkeys were won at the Chateau Trap Club event on the golf course hill last Sunday. Ten were given to ticket holders. Morris Franklin claimed two thirds of the prizes with others including Earl Turnbull Helen Hensley Ernest Dale Cecil Morey Harry Wood Eddie Howard Bob Zion and Dick Conklin among winners. Turkeys weighed 22 pounds and 299 tickets were sold.

Hutterite freed from Butte jail by judge order

A 24 year old Hutterite from Chateau was released on his own recognizance by US District Judge Wurtz from Silver Bow county jail in Butte after a Dec 1 detention on a charge of wilful refusal to enter the armed forces. He returned to Chateau after relatives could not post bond and presented for examinations but refused the oath to serve.
