Winners named in 4 H rodent control event
At the 4 H council meeting last Saturday the winners and results of the rodent control contest were announced. Eleven clubs and 66 participants competed with 18 individuals qualifying for a prize. The effort reportedly saved about 10000 in crops for the county. Clyde Schultz was the high point member followed by Betty Brownell Erickson. Holt Montana's new governor Elmer Holt sworn in at Helena
Senator William Elmer Holt of Miles City was sworn in as governor of Montana following Governor Cooney's death. Holt, a Democrat and ex cowhand, has served as acting governor during absences and is noted for his square jaw and friendly smile. He is born in 1882 in Savannah Missouri and moved to Montana at age two. He worked in realty and for the Northern Pacific land department, later serving in both houses of the Montana legislature. Holt and his wife have two children, Ben and Lora Berta.

Youth Dies Sunday at Choteau Hospital
Keith Wesley Black aged 15 son of Mr and Mrs Ernest Black of Dutton died early Sunday morning at Choteau hospital after a lingering illness thought to be heart trouble linked to scarlet fever. Born August 14 1920 at the Choteau hospital he is survived by his parents a sister Norma a high school senior. Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at the Methodist church conducted by Rev Edwin Dover with interment in the local cemetery. Chas G Roberts directed. A quartet sang two selections during the service. Pallbearers were W G Dauwalder Peter Peterson John Mathison John Shields Howard McClellan and Wm Webber.

Christmas decorating in Choteau expanded through the week and the town now looks its best. The Scouts' municipal tree stands at the court house with other large trees at the city building and Tom's Service Station. Main street and First street north display evergreen garlands and colored lights. Homes feature decorative lighting, wreaths and candles while Frank Stearns and H C Huffman of Montana Power Co assisted with wiring. A Christmas Eve program with treats for kids is planned at the municipal tree, sponsored by the Boy Scouts.

Recreation Council Meeting Draws Forty in Teton
The Teton County Recreation Council held its monthly gathering at the high school last Friday evening. About 40 men and women attended as Bynum leaders led the program with community singing quiet active games and folk dancing. A lunch of Christmas cookies and coffee followed. The next meeting is planned for Saturday evening January 4.

County Treasurer Remits 328 483.34 To State Treasury
December remittance from Teton county to the state treasurer totaled 328 483.34. County Treasurer Elmer C. Smith reported 7 942.42 goes to the general fund from taxes. A 113 35 share comes from rentals of property acquired by tax deed. The rest funds several state accounts including livestock, bounty, education bonds, hail insurance, veterans memorial, and university funding.

Governor Frank H. Cooney Dies at 62 in Great Falls
Montana Democratic leader Governor Frank H. Cooney, aged 62, died Sunday night at Columbus Hospital Great Falls from a heart attack suffered after a health decline. Born in Norwood Ontario in 1872 he built a business career in Butte and Missoula, developing Cooney Bros. and Cooney Brokerage, later farming in Bitter Root valley and promoting Montana agriculture. He served as governor and had recently attended state highway official meetings in Miami.

Corn Hog Compliance Finished in Teton County
Teton county supervisors O. G. Matkin and A. S. Jensen completed 1935 corn hog contract compliance certificates and sent them to the county agent for checking before forwarding to state compliance director A. J. Barton for approval. About 78 contractors have received 31,957.50 in payments to date. 1936 contracts arrive in a month with two year terms and adjustments to base acreage and hog production.

Former County Commissioner Dies in Ellensburg
Wm. J. Crittenden died December 12 in Ellensburg Washington at age nearly 74 from heart trouble. He served as Teton County commissioner from Fairfield district, settled on the Fairfield project in 1910, and was a Michigan native who came to Montana in 1891. Funeral held at Fairfield with interment beside his late wife, three daughters Wheeler Cole Earl Zimmerman Helen and three sons Albert Dean William. son Joe died in 1918.
