State Board of Farm Loans Faces Shortfall in Applications

The state board reports 752 farm loan applications pending with $1 625 300 more sought than funds. Of these, 286 lack abstracts or title approval, 312 approved but not closed, 96 mortgaged but not executed, and 95 awaiting property appraisal. Since lending began, over 4,000 loans totaling $2 399 880 have been made, leaving a net balance of $402 375 across funds. Investments include $273 800 in Liberty Bonds and the rest in school bonds.

Sheriff-elect Martine appointed Co. E. Neuman as under-sheriff and Ed Oliver as jailer. Neuman, a farmer on the east end of the Porter bench, and Oliver, formerly Conrad police chief, fill key county posts.
