Dupuyer Suffers Second Fire Hitting East Side Block
A second blaze in Dupuyer on the night of the end of September devastated the east side of the main business block. The fire started in Fred Grow’s service station and garage and spread to John Pfeiffer’s meat and grocery store housing the state liquor store and to Harry Creighton’s beer parlor and rooming house. Strong winds spread embers to nearby homes, with two-thirds of the state liquor inventory destroyed though insured. The fire began about 9:30 p.m. and wind direction limited further damage to the west.

Miss Katherine Van Sherpenzeel and Lester R. Rice were married last Saturday at the Methodist church parsonage by Rev. R. F. Vick. The bride, born in Big Sandy and raised in Chateau, is a Teton county high school graduate and longtime 4-H member. She works at the local J. C. Penney store and plans to move to Fairfield with her husband after year’s end.

Billings Holds 2 Vote Lead After Second County Recount

County Commissioners Announce Appointments and Contracts
At the December board meeting, the commissioners made numerous appointments and contracts for county services. W. G. Dauwalder will replace O. M. Gaare on the county high school board. Emma Clark and Marie Anderson were named county board of educational examiners. Dr. H. W. Bateman was reappointed as county physician and health officer. The Chateau hospital won the county poor hospitalization contract at 15 dollars per week per patient, Charles G. Roberts retained burial contract for the poor, and M. S. Bullerdick was reappointed as veteran's burial supervisor. A contract with Edith Van Scherpenzeel was approved for operating the county poor farm. An emergency 600 dollar appropriation was directed to the sheriff's office to cover prisoner care and maintenance. The board declined action on a proposed redistricting law and noted more prisoners due to highway patrol.
