Choteau Hosts 2d Invitational Basketball Tournament
Choteau high school hosts its second annual invitational basketball tournament on Dec 14 15 with visiting teams Fairfield Conrad and Valier. Fairfield vs Conrad opens Friday at 7 30 pm, Valier vs Choteau follows. Friday losers play Saturday for consolation, winners meet for the championship. Verne Binkesley formerly of Great Falls was brought to Teton Memorial Hospital Tuesday.

Fire Destroys Ranch Building West Of Chateau
A late Sunday fire at Fred Meadows ranch seven miles west of Chateau destroyed an unoccupied old residence, believed caused by an electrical short. Firefighters contained the blaze to the building. no damage estimates available. Chateau Grade School to present a Christmas program December 20 in the high school auditorium with multiple grade performances.

Funeral Tomorrow for William H Converse at Augusta Church
The last rites for 77 year old William Henry Converse will be held tomorrow at the Augusta Community church with Rev. A B Grandal officiating. Born December 28 1878 at Fort Benton he moved to the Augusta area as a child and lived on the Elk Creek road. He married Margaret Ostle March 4 1908 in Helena. Survivors include his wife four sons Elton and three grandsons. He was a life member of the Augusta Odd Fellows Lodge. Banks Funeral Home directs arrangements.

High Winds Hit Chateau Area Before and After Sunday
Weather gusts up to 140 mph were recorded near Valier with 125 mph in Dupuyer as high winds Sunday night and Monday toppled five Montana Power poles near Chateau and caused widespread minor damage. A 45 year old man, Ferdinand Winters, was injured when his car crashed near Bole-Power road, paralyzed from the waist down but showing some improvement after surgery.

Retiring County Commissioner James Peebles Honored
