A second sale of a bulk petroleum business in Chateau occurs on December 27 with Robert Maloney named agent for Standard Oil Co. in Chateau, following Jake Luinstra’s purchase earlier this month. Ray Davison will become Standard Oil agent in Great Falls on December 29 after a 13 year Chateau tenure. Davison, a 1932 TetCounty graduate, has held multiple posts in Choteau and remains active in civic groups and politics. The family will stay in Choteau until May end.

Iron Ore Lease Assigned to Winston Brothers in Montana
The Montana Land Board on December 12 assigned a recently issued iron ore mining lease in Teton county from Norman Whitaker to Winston Brothers Corporation of Duluth Minnesota. Whitaker had held the lease since November and requested the transfer to Winston and R M Adams of Duluth. The leased area lies about 18 miles west of Choteau.

Funeral services for James W. Howe 79 Fairfield were held Wednesday at a Great Falls funeral home after he died Sunday night in a local hospital. Rev. Ralph Northup officiated with burial in Highland cemetery. Born July 23 1877 in Minnesota he farmed in Minnesota Sun River and Fairfield retiring five years ago Surviving daughters Mrs. Francis DeLacey Great Falls and Mrs. Robert Knight Fairfield and son James Howe Fairfield.

Preparations for adopting the two-letter five-digit numbering in Choteau are near completion. The change takes effect at 12:01 a.m. Sunday January 20. Chateau numbers will use the prefix INGERSOLL 6 followed by four digits, enabling future direct long distance dialing. A new directory will be issued listing street addresses and new numbers for subscribers and outsiders.

Wyoming Man Hurt in Auto Crash Sunday
Leonard Glen Gullion of Powell Wyoming was seriously injured in a Sunday morning crash on the Fairfield Chateau highway near Fairfield. The driver Reinold F Sump missed a curve at the Bole road junction, the car struck a guard post, spun and rolled 216 feet. Gullion suffered a concussion and skull fracture, was brought to Teton Memorial Hospital, and relatives traveled from Wyoming to assist. Sump pled guilty to reckless driving and paid a $50 fine. Both men worked for a seismograph company in Choteau.

Youth Charged With First Degree Murder Returned to Helena Jail
A 17 year old youth accused of the April 28 slaying of Charles D. Ward 59 salesman for a Denver novelty house near Highway 89 north of Pendray was returned to the Lewis and Clark County jail by Sheriff Tom Dellno after appearing before Judge R M Hattersley. The Spokane youth pleaded innocent at a June 22 hearing and had been transferred from Teton county jail to Cascade county jail in May due to facility limits before being moved to Helena.
