O Neill Boy Wounded in Accidental Shooting

Bobby O Neill, son of Mr and Mrs E R O Neill of Chateau, was accidentally shot in the leg by friend Jimmy Howard while they examined a 22 caliber pistol last Saturday night He is recovering and may be out of bed in three or four days with crutches and a healing leg The pistol had a hair trigger and may have fired from a loaded chamber both boys apparently unaware the gun was loaded

Power Program Christmas Program Set for December 21

The Power school will present its annual Christmas program on Tuesday December 21 directed by grade teachers Mrs McGuire Miss Miller Mrs Meek and Mrs Brown. The high school chorus will also take part directed by Mr Vage.

County Tax Charge for 1948 Totals $829 111.87

County Treasurer G E Monkman reports the 1948 total tax charge is 829 111.87 or 86 974.68 higher than 1947. The levy includes real estate public utilities personal property motor vehicles and net proceeds tax with November 30 1948 payments totaling 603 339.39 and 97 65 percent paid on personal property not attached to real estate. Delinquent payments in November total 12 410.27 and vehicle plate counts are 2 135 autos 1 695 trucks 134 trailers and 75 exempt licenses.

Vernon Alf of Chateau high school earned an excellent rating at the Montana Music Educators association meeting in Helena last week. He was among 17 teachers directing at a workshop with band orchestra and chorus programs before the next MMEA gathering in May at Great Falls.

Two Schools To Present Christmas Music Program

A Christmas music program by the Chateau high school and grade school music departments will be presented next Thursday night, Dec. 16, at the high school auditorium. Dutton Woman Mary Roggenbuck Dies in Great Falls

Mrs. Mary Roggenbuck 72 of Dutton died Friday night in a Great Falls hospital after a brief illness. She was the mother of Mrs. Mary Loch of Dutton and lived with her since her husband’s death in 1937. Body sent to Milbank SD for burial. Born June 30 1876 in Germany she came to the United States as a child. Survived by daughters Mrs. Helen Rodermecher Mrs. Lucy Horak and Mrs. Ida Lange and four sons Frank Andrew George and Joseph.

Service Officer Visits Veterans Welfare Office

Service Officer Albert Lester of the Veterans Welfare commission will be in Chateau in the courthouse every Wednesday from 11 a.m. to 2 30 p.m. He will assist veterans with pensions insurance employment vocational rehabilitation education and other benefits under the GI Bill and related legislation. Lester urges veterans to bring their discharge papers.

Meeting of Teton Sportsmen Here Seeks Strong Attendance

A large turnout is urged for the Teton Sportsmen's association meeting at the forest service office in Choteau tomorrow night. Secretary Earl Hollar says resolutions will be discussed in preparation for a Chateau meeting Saturday with the guide and packer's association. Recruiters Visit Choteau Every Friday

Army and air force recruiters visit Choteau each Friday afternoon at the Chateau club. John W. Sturdivant of the Great Falls recruiting office said eligible draft men who have not completed pre-induction physicals may enlist with former ratings. Veterans who qualify may enlist in various scores of work and receive special privileges.

Farmers Gather to Hear Livestock Disease Talks at Courthouse

About 40 Teton county farmers attended a courthouse meeting on livestock diseases on November 30. Dr. Howard Welch of Montana State College Bozeman led a discussion, covering lice and grub control calf diarrhea calf scours lump jaw leg injury in sheep worms and mineral supplementation. A similar session was held the next day in Fairfield with 35 farmers.
