Y-G Bee Line Highway Directors Push Early Completion

At a Great Falls meeting last Friday the Y-G Bee Line Highway association directors voiced strong support for completing the remaining units of highway 89 and for extensive improvements. They asked federal and state bodies to fund Monarch-Nethart and other link sections and to expedite the Browning Glacier Park cutoff and winter routes.

Choteau Girl Competes for A Rifle Team at MSU

Margaret Carlson of Choteau is trying out for Montana State University's nine-woman rifle team. The team will open the Garden City league against Fort Missoula January 18. Selections will be made weekly from 28 candidates based on practice performance under Major Ralph M. Caulkins, the rifle team instructor.

Mrs. Wm. Morehead and her infant son were discharged Sunday after a stay at a Great Falls hospital. The couple's health and status were described as satisfactory.

Tax Collections For First Half 1937 Reach $187,231.63

County Treasurer G. Meadows reports the first half of 1937 tax collections totalled 187,231.63 with 170,576.52 from real property and 16,655.11 from personal property. The county’s total charge is 357,497.06 for real and 22,477.68 for personal property. Despite adverse agricultural conditions, collections are strong, and 25,031.29 of the total includes payments for the second half. Remittances so far include 17,982.19 to the State, 5,046.54 to Chateau, and 3,015.87 to Dutton.

Death Claims Daniel Huffman and Rites Held at M E Church

Funeral services for Daniel Huffman were held Sunday at the Methodist church with Rev. R. F. Vick presiding. Huffman died Wednesday at Chateau hospital after a lengthy illness from a paralytic stroke. He was 86, born December 27, 1855 in Fairfield, Ohio, and survived by his widow and three sons and five daughters. The service featured songs by Mrs. R. E. Nelson and Miss Mae Walton, with Mrs. M. M. Webb at the piano. pallbearers included Ray Nelson, Hampton Bloom, L. E. Taylor, M. A. King, C. W. Burns and Jos. Knudtzon. The body was taken to Great Falls for cremation.

Butte Native Named Texaco Bulk Plant Manager in Choteau

Elmer R. Dial arrives to manage the Texaco wholesale plant in Choteau after 15 years with Texaco in Butte and Spokane. The transfer follows S. M. Wallace resigning to join Northwest Refining Co. which opened a new wholesale plant in Chateau on the Great Northern right of way.

Teton Cascade and Simms squads falter in late season games

The Teton and Cascade teams split results with Simms during a two night set. Cascade defeated the Bulldogs 20 to 11 while Simms topped Teton 28 to 8. The Teton girls lost 32 to 14, and Teton reserves beat Cascade seconds 14 to 12 in overtime.

Citizens State Bank Joins Federal Reserve System

The Citizens State Bank of this city is now a member of the Federal Reserve system in the ninth district with Minneapolis as headquarters. Admission followed a rigorous exam after an application. Cashier Fred Barribal says the move will boost banking safety and business. J N Peyton, president of the Minneapolis Fed, notified the bank. Assistant cashier C J Larson attended to the matter at Helena.

Augusta High School hoops team hosts games this weekend

The Augusta High School Bulldogs boys and girls prepare for home court battles this Friday night with a possible Saturday trip to Great Falls to face St Marys. Marthele Young Weds William Olson in Conrad

Miss Marthele Young daughter of Fairfield residents and a 1936 Teton County High graduate married William Lambert Olson of Browning in Conrad on November 26. Rev. McCorkle officiated. The couple will reside in Browning after December 15 as both work at Sherburn Mercantile Co. in Browning.

Gibler Reviews Sun River Big Game Season and Regulations

Wm. L. Gibler recounted the Sun River hunting season, noting a herd of elk crossing the north fork and the year’s regulations limiting camper access and pack horse use on the high trail. He praised the country’s forage and abundant mountain sheep, calling the range a great natural game area.

Mother of Power woman Matilda Berndt dies at 72

Mrs. Matilda Berndt mother of Oscar Berndt and longtime Power resident died Friday at her daughter Mrs. Alfred Nelsons home after a long illness including a broken hip. Born January 2 1865 in Germany she immigrated to Minnesota then homesteaded near Power in 1912. Survived by sons Al and William Berndt daughters Lydia Johnson Anna Berndt eight grandchildren funeral at German Lutheran church Power with Rev G C Michaels interment by her husband.
