Major Glant outlines Safeguard missile site impact on Choteau
Maj. Merton Glant, U S Army information officer, told Choteau Chamber of Commerce the Safeguard Missile System will bring population growth to the Conrad area with 1200 to 1400 people by mid 1970 and peak at 3500 workers and families by 1972. He warned Conrad housing is inadequate and government housing may be limited to personnel. He discussed project housing, road improvements, and explained system components including Spartan and Sprint missiles and PAR and MSR radars. Glant noted two sites planned, with potential expansion to two more if tensions rise. He is married to former Choteau resident Tischelle Hirshberg.

Lowell Powell and John Sinn surveyed Choteau for the Army Corps of Engineers on how the Safeguard missile project would affect housing and public schools. They counted local businesses and capacity and said surveys are underway in towns within 50 miles. The Huntsville Division will use results to guide workers arriving for the project.

Curtiss Wilson 18 of Choteau was hospitalized for observation after a one car crash on Highway 287. Police freed Wilson from the totaled 1962 Chevrolet. he received a citation. The car left the road, struck a yard pole and stop sign, and stopped against a tree in Dr. Bill Patton's yard.

Civil Defense Radiological Course For Local Police Fire
The Teton County Civil Defense sponsors a radiological monitoring course at Koreau High School starting December 8 at 7 p.m. for all law enforcement and fire departments in the county. A 16 hour introductory session and a two hour refresher are offered to trained personnel to operate monitoring equipment in a national emergency.

Weather Delay Likely For City Well Construction

Firemen Answer Call On Chimney Wall Fire
Choteau Volunteer Fire Department responded to a blaze at Jack Dunn’s south Choteau home Saturday around 2 15 pm. Dunn was burning grass when embers ignited a siding board near the base and spread to the wall. Firefighters removed siding and extinguished the fire. smoke filled the house but damage remained to the outer wall.

Local Men Aid Motorist After Car Fire
William Baker, his son, and James Weinert of Chateau stopped to assist a motorist when his car owned by Louis W. Soup of Cardston Canada caught fire five miles north of Chateau on Highway 89. Sheriff Al Becker reported the fire was put out, the car was a total loss, and Soup and his party were assisted to Browning for onward travel.

Mrs. A. Zwier Dies in Hospital in Chateau
Angie Zwier 81 of Conrad died Sunday at Teton Memorial Hospital Chateau. Funeral services were held Tuesday. Born in Zaandam Netherlands she married Gerrit Zwier in Holland. They immigrated to the U S and settled near Conrad in 1921. Survivors: two daughters Mrs Cecil Morey Chateau and Mrs Esther Prichard Vancouver Wash. two sons Gerritt Jacob Casper Wyo and Frans B Valier.
