The board of school district number one has let a contract for a steam heating plant for the public school building in Chateau. Frank Gillan, the Conrad contractor, will do the work. The plant will cost $1685.00.
Delegates chosen at the democratic primaries met at Conrad and decided to name delegates to the state convention. They adjourned to meet September 14 to nominate a county ticket. Friction arose between delegates Verge and Ralston of Chateau. Delegates named: Herbert Conrad, P. Kelly, Charles Krofft, W. J. Dorrington, C. W. Simms, BE. D. Forrest, A. A. Brooks and Dan Ledgerwood.
Recent transactions show renewed activity in Chateau town property. J I Cain bought two Mon tana avenue lots from J B Webb for 100 dollars each and plans a residence. G M Coffey acquired several lots on the west side of 4 Matin street from J G Hopkinson. P I Cole bought the P B Christian house and lots on Parmer avenue.
Reports from Montana include plans for the state fair attractions and a wireless telegraph exhibit. Great Falls builds a high school annex costing 122000. The Society of Montana Pioneers meets in Missoula. The Soo railroad plans 55 miles of new track in Valley county. Great Northern works start on a 125000 Helena passenger station. About 300000 acres to be offered for sale by the state. Dan McKay of Glasgow seeks the Democratic congressional nomination. Louie W. Gill named Grey Horse by the Blackfeet. Montana Press Association to meet in Kalispell with HE Cooney as president. Augusta line progress on Great Northern from Helena to Fort Shaw and bridges delayed. Governor Morrison named by Montana Federation of Labor as unfair. he defends himself. HE Cooney to run for governor at Republican convention. A seven year old boy drowns near Sunriver above Great Falls. State board of equalization sets hearing Sept 3 in Helena to assess property values for equalization.
About twenty surveyors camped at the Bower ranch south of Choteau since the 17th as they recheck stakes along streets and the section line. C F Healy, badge says American Society of Engineers, leads the crew likely hired by Chicago Milwaukee and Puget Sound RR. Publicity official may follow. officials hint at future construction by Milwaukee or Great Northern.
County Attorney Doyle visited the railroad yesterday afternoon. Otis Ericsson of Miles City is in town to visit his friend A. H. Doughty. A son was born Sunday forenoon to Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Roberson. Violet Lestrud resigned from the post office to teach at the Cascade ranch school.
Miss Edith Lather came back from South Dakota after visiting relatives and attending summer school for teachers. Jas E Eckford returned Monday from Kalispell where he attended the annual meeting of the bankers of the state.
A. S. Bayden, deputy in the county clerk's office, has rented Mrs. Lestrud's house and will soon occupy it with his family.
Prof. W. H. Funke, assistant principal of the county high school, arrived Friday afternoon from Lincoln Nebraska to assume his new duties here.
John Burrell returned yesterday from Swan Lake where he spent a short outing at the summer home of friends. He met Dr Long and family who were camping at the lake.
Rk R Mellon of the Chateau Drug company returned Friday from a month away on a combined business trip and visit to St Paul Denver and Kansas City.
Mrs. Fannie Chenoweth, former superintendent of schools in Teton county, purchased a residence in Kalispell and now resides there. Previously she lived in Saconia Valley county.
Mrs. Nellie R. Brown, the county superintendent, left Sunday for Sweet Grass and nearby areas to conduct the regular examination for teachers and eighth grade pupils at Conrad tomorrow and the following day.
Cal Bieford presents a fine threshed winter wheat sample to partners A. C. Burbank and A. G. Baker. The crop averaged 231 g bushels this year with top quality, described as among the best.
The Chateau district board of trustees was astonished Friday evening by the resignation of Professor Wilkins of Pony Mont as principal for the coming year. He cites inability to find a house here, a reason the board and community doubt. Miss Luther also declined the third and fourth grade position due to release issues with a neighboring town.
D W Hoy aged ninety three, father of A J Hoy, was found dead in his bed Wednesday. Once in good health with rheumatism only, he remained active and mentally sharp. A native of Illinois, he spent years in Montana near Chateau and at his son’s ranch. Remains taken to Bozeman for burial.
Examinations for teachers and eighth grade pupils will be held tomorrow and the next day in the high school building instead of the court house as previously announced.
Geo J Miller, chairman of the county commissioners, returned from a vacation to Washington Oregon and California. He paused duties on roads bridges and county division to pursue pleasure, taking a respite from public business.
T R Carr of Cut Bank arrived last Thursday to visit his son A B Carr of the Royal restaurant and Mrs Carr. He had just returned from a two week stay at Boulder Hot Springs and has been treated for rheumatism. He once lived in Chateau among early day residents.
A fisherman found a skeletal remains along Birch Creek two hundred yards from a skull reported by a boy. The body wore clothing with broken ribs and an ankle bone, ages uncertain. A missing Walier man was ruled unlikely. coroner listed no inquest and the remains were sent to Conrad for burial.
By direction of the county central committee a Republican county convention is called to meet in Cut Bank at 10 a.m. on Tuesday September 3 1912 to select 17 delegates and 17 alternates for the state convention on September 5 1912 in Great Falls Montana and to nominate candidates for county township and county offices. Primaries will be held August 31 1912 from 2 to 6 p.m. at usual voting places with rules for voter qualification and precinct apportionment listed.
The socialist convention in Conorad nominated a full county slate. Representatives Daniel Lindseth of Farmington and RB Rasmussen of Cut Bank. Commissioner Ole Wagoild of Farmington. Clerk S K Taft of Cut Bank. Sheriff S G Baker of Collins. Treasurer H A Howe of Conrad. Assessor John Angus of Collins. County Attorney J C Regney. Surveyor J C Nolan of Shelby. Superintendent of Schools Mrs Josie Hanson of Farmington. Coroner D Hanks of Conrad. Public Administrator H L Bleeker of Farmington. Clerk of the Court J C Brower of Shelby.
Local sportsmen prepare for the open duck season starting next Sunday. Ducks are plentiful on the lakes and hunters may bag up to twenty per day. The grouse and chickens season will not open until October first.

Rev Wachsmuth and family back to Great Falls after weeks visit with Mrs Wachsmuths parents, A Schoone and wife. L J Otness and family were in Conrad last Thursday. Mrs Schibstead of Power visiting. J W Kerr brought a new threshing rig from Collins. Signe Wagnild and sister Olga, recently in hospital, returned home from Great Falls last Saturday.
A meeting of the Pure Bred Sire League will be held at the court house in Chateau on Saturday afternoon August 31 at 2 o clock p m. Full attendance of members is desired as business matters require attention. J H Meyer secretary.
Due to repairs to church rooms there will be no services next Sunday. On the following Sunday September 8 regular services will be held at 10 30 a m and 7 45 p m conducted by Rev P R McMahan the newly appointed minister to this charge.
