County Division Referred to Supreme Court Over Elector Qualifications

A Great Falls hearing before Judges Ewing and Leslie led to a stipulation sending the county division dispute to the state supreme court. The key issue is whether electors must be actual residents of the new county at election time or merely qualified voters who registered at the last general election in the county. A fall decision is expected. meanwhile the Oct. 15 election date may be altered by county commissioners.

Professor Toan, former principal of the Taton County Uieth School, has been named deputy state superintendent by State Superintendent Harmon. He replaces G. A. Ketcham, who resigned to lead Missoula County High School. A prominent citizen urges renewed attention to thistle control as a public nuisance. Section 8872 makes it illegal to permit Canada Scotch bull or Russian thistles to go to seed on land under one's control and provides fines from five to fifty dollars for violators.

Steel railroad bridges begin at Collins

Work has started on large steel railway trestles to replace wooden spans over the Te ton and Muddy rivers at Collins. Machinery is on site, excavation underway, tracks laid for machines. The project will likely take two years.

He previously served in Garnell and Harlowton and earlier in the Rock River conference in Illinois and is a Garrett Biblical Institute graduate. Fire destroys five grain stacks at Hagen farm

Fairfield reports a Saturday Aug 17 fire on the Hagen bench burning five grain stacks. A boy set a row between two piles which caused the wheat to burn. Residents note a heavy rain lasting about thirty hours improving ploughing conditions.

Father of Jas Russell Dies Sunday

Job Russell, aged 78 and English born, father of real estate dealer Jas Russell, died Sunday after age related illness. He lived mostly in America, with early years in Ontario and Alberta, and two years near Choteau. Funeral held at his residence with HA Prescott in charge and pallbearers named. Burial in Choteau cemetery.
