Choteau Lions Club Swim Team closed a strong season with Aug 15 17 meets in Harlowton and Helena. Dru Nordhagen led with pool records and wins in the 50 yard freestyle, breaststroke, and butterfly, while Mary Rathman set a pool mark in the 100 IM. Junior and intermediate squads posted multiple relay wins and numerous top finishes across events including backstroke, butterfly, and freestyle.

Choteau Public Schools begin Tuesday September 2 with 9 am to 4 pm hours. Kindergarten runs 9 to 11 30 am and 1 to 3 30 pm. Buses pick up rural students by 8 45 to 8 50 am and depart 4 to 4 10 pm. Hard Red Winter includes Blue Jacket Cache Parkof Red Chief Stafford Yogo, Hard Red Spring names Henry Kinney Namari 69 Red River 68 Penjamo 62 Pitic 62 Spinkcota, White names Gaines Florence Rex Siete Cerros 66, Soft Red Winter Nured, and Durum Oviachic. Only Yogo and Red River 68 appear in Montana's recent variety summary. Yogo acreage is about 4,800 acres and Red River 68 about 4,000. Designees reflect inferior milling or baking quality or milling incompatibility. Designation was by USDA Agricultural Research Service. Producers must certify production of undesirable varieties based on seed and harvest knowledge.

Stebbens Services Held for Albert B. Stebbens
Albert B. Stebbens, 76, of Power, died Saturday in a Great Falls hospital after homesteading in Power since WWI. Born in Poynett Wisconsin, he moved to Montana in 1916 to ranch near Lewistown. He belonged to the Methodist Church. Survived by sister Ruth Williamson of Lewistown and nephew Robert Cummings of Hardin. Services and burial will be in Lewistown.

Grass Blaze On Area Ranch Near Choтаte
Choteau Rural Fire Department quickly handled a grass fire at the Hamilton Ranch northwest of Cho last Sunday. Reported around 10 p.m., the blaze was extinguished in about 45 minutes. The Hamilton Ranch Co. of Simms owns the property.

Morris receives WSU health grant for veterinary studies
Judy Y. Morris of Choteau the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Morris was awarded a $600 Health Professions scholarship by Washington State University Pullman. She is a 1964 Choteau graduate who studied pre medicine at Montana State University and will be a junior in a four year veterinary program at WSU She is aided through the WICHE program during the summer with her parents.

About 16 workers including roughnecks and drillers operate on the Humble Oil Co. wildcat site 22 miles west of Chateau. Noble Drilling Corp of Tulsa is contracted to drill. The pusher is Charles Cortez. Four families have moved to Chateau living in trailer homes at KOA Rampground and plan to stay through the winter.

In 100 degree heat, 24 men 12 women and six juniors competed. John Swanson Jr. won the men’s title with 79, Harvey Thronson 80 finished second, Bob Armstroug 82 third. Bear Breaks Into Summer Cabin On Deep Creek
A hungry bear broke into Cecil Passmore's cabin on the North Fork of Deep Creek last weekend, ripping shutters and tearing cupboards and walls. Firewood and food were missing, a snare was used for three days but the bear did not return until the latest incident. The Passmores reported the break to the Forest Service and Predatory Control.
