Retirement Center Site Approved by HUD Directors

HUD official Lester McKant favorably noted the Skyline Lodge site in Montana after visiting the Board of Directors. The non profit project seeks about 70 paid residents for HUD approval with 20 percent income based aid details to be released next week. Services include private quarters central dining linen and laundry with low interest long term financing.

Grouse Season Opens in Montana with New Sunday Start

The Montana Fish and Game Department sets opening for grouse season at sunrise on Sept 13, deviating from tradition by starting Saturday. Shooting hours run from half an hour before sunrise to half an hour after sunset. Mountain grouse may be taken with shotgun up to 10 gauge, long bow, rifle, or handgun. Other species require 10 gauge shotgun or bow. General limits include five birds daily for mountains, ten possession after day one, and six daily partridge with twelve possession after day one. Several counties and reserves are closed to hunting and Indian reservations require agency check. Ringneck season kickoff set for Oct 25 noon. bag limits to be announced.

The National Red Cross raises the disaster relief goal from 6 million to 15 million as 69 000 families across Mississippi Virginia West Virginia Louisiana and Alabama report losses. Merlin the Magician Reads Minds in Choteau Parade Show

The Choteau Jaycees announce a magic mystery show by Merlin the Magician at 8 p.m. on September 10 in the Choteau High School auditorium. ASCS will mail ballots for the annual ASC committeemen election on September 5. Farmers may vote for up to five nominees, add others, and return ballots by September 15. Bill Wellenstein Dies in Falls

Bill Wellenstein of Pendroy died Wednesday at a Great Falls hospital after about two weeks of illness. Funeral services are set for Saturday at 11 am at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Chateau with a rosary at Banks Chapel Friday evening. Banks Funeral Home handling arrangements. String Tournament at Chateau Golf Club This Sunday

The Chateau Golf Club hosts a nine hole String Tournament on Sunday Sept 7 from 1 to 5 pm at the Country Club course. Steak fry follows and entrants with stakes reduced by $1 receive one foot of string per handicap. Winners receive golf balls. Additional potluck events occur Sept 4 and 11 at the Country Club as league matches continue for the trophy.

Tractor Mishap Seriously Hurts Fairfield Boy

A 15 year old Fairfield boy was seriously injured last Tuesday night when the tractor he was driving overturned about a mile north of Fairfield. He freed himself from under the tractor and was helped by Adolph Dale until Fairfield ambulance arrived. A blown tire delayed transport to Choteau then Deaconess Hospital in Great Falls for surgery.

Pathfinder Federation Expands Montana Library Services statewide

Teton County funds membership in the Pathfinder Federation with headquarters at Great Falls Public Library. The $14,000 yearly program adds a Bookmobile, centralized purchasing, 150,000 volumes, reference access, photo copy facilities, films, and librarian training. Federation boosts small libraries via a strong central system while preserving local autonomy.

A nine member steering committee in Fort Benton will draft bylaws for the North Central Montana Health Planning Council. Two Malmstrom Air Force Base men were injured slightly Saturday evening when their six passenger pickup veered off Highway 221 six miles east of Chateau. Driver Charles S. DeLaRosa Jr and passenger Gregory Merritt were taken to Teton Memorial Hospital. both wore seat belts.

Area Horsemen Ride In VEW Open Show

Choteau hosted the VEW Open Horse Show last weekend highlighting Labor Day events. Winners include Brent Otness in Lead Line under six, Donna Ploglare leading English pleasure, and the grand champion title awarded to Carol Guse with Debbie Otness as reserve.
