Superintendent R C Graham says Chateau schools will open Tuesday September 2 with a full faculty and completed arrangements for the first day. About 150 high school students are expected, including 48 freshmen. A new kindergarten will open with roughly 40 pupils. Bus routes and lunch prices remain the same.
High school coach Cecil Deming calls all players to report for equipment pickup Saturday Sunday or Monday at the school. First team practice slated Monday at 7 30 pm under the lights. Equipment managers are also sought with early signups encouraged. Freshman and sophomore teams will play full games Thursdays starting Sept 18, with a opener against the Chateau Bulls at Fort Benton, Fort Benton.
The Teton Memorial Hospital guild will hold a meeting in the hospital dining room on Wednesday, August 27 from 2 to 4 p.m. The Soroptimists will supervise the work unit and all ladies are invited to attend.
Mr and Mrs Ike Taylor of Lewistown were overnight visitors in Chateau last Wednesday. The Taylors with their guests toured Glacier park on Thursday.
The Chateau Woman's club hosts its annual flower show and tea at the city park pavilion this Saturday. Entries may be brought from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. with judging in the afternoon and a tea from 2 to 5 p.m. Mrs. Charles McDonald donates an oil painting shown at the event.
The Chamber of Commerce debated relocating the county rest home from Main Street to a site near the hospital after Dr. L. S. Crary outlined cost savings from shared laundry, kitchen, and heating. Commissioners opposed, citing downtown activity and noise for nearby schoolchildren. Construction of an addition on Main Street is about to begin.
The Big Sky by Bud Guthrie, adapted by Howard Hawks, will be shown at the Roxy theater on September 4 5 and 6. The world premiere occurred in Chicago during the Democratic convention. Filming largely took place in Wyoming and Guthrie, from Chateau and summering at Twin Lakes, is executive editor of the Lexington Leader.
The Southwest Pondera area sees intensified drilling with completions and new sites. Phillips Petroleum reports a Madison formation well at the Paul Rice farm testing 75 bpd, offsetting the Phillips-Winkler Connolle No 1 which yields over 350 bpd with little water after a 15 day pump test.
A new shipment of children’s books features tales about horses. For ages 8 to 12 are Winter Horse Justin Morgan Had a Horse and Wild Palomino. For 5 to 8 year olds are Chico Castle in the Sand with water color illustrations by Betting Belly's On and A Pony for Linda. The collection promises appealing stories and quality production for young readers.
The city council, at its August 4 meeting, postponed the planned August 26 special election to September 30 to gain time for organizing the election tasks. The vote will decide two issues: approval or rejection of city ordinance 112 restricting dogs to owner residences and the sale of city property.
Rev A B Holland former Fairfield Lutheran pastor for 11 years departs Monday for Valders Wisconsin with his wife. Services will be held Sunday at American Lutheran 9 45 and St Pauls 11 15. He led Fairfield since 1941 and helped establish the first church which doubled in membership. His civic work included district vice president 1943 51 and director roles with Coeur d Alene Homes for the Aged and displaced persons resettlement.
The 1952 National High School rodeo in Augusta features a Parade of Champions Saturday with about 200 western horses. Gov Bonner opens the show. Miss Mary Condon greets contestants. rodeo queens from eight states compete for top horsemanship rankings and interviews follow the contest.
Jake Luinstra, chairman of the county PMA, underscored the importance of the upcoming PMA committeemen election as the 1953 Agricultural Conservation program centers on on-farm visits. Board nominations for Teton County’s 13 communities proceed, with ballots listing nominees and write-in options to ensure the best qualified farmers and ranchers fill committee roles.
Gill Scrivens of the Great Falls Speaker's bureau will speak at the Teton County Women's Republican club meeting tomorrow night. The meeting begins at 8 pm in the county court room. The public is invited and members are urged to bring husbands and friends.
M Hart and L Lane exchange vows in candlelight service here. Bride wears white moire taffeta with nylon net yoke and long train, Juliet cap with pearls, carries a pink rosebud Bible. Bridesmaids in yellow and blue gowns, flowers petals. groom's party includes best man Fred Gray of Bozeman and ring bearer Michael Goodman of Great Falls.
Mrs. Leonard Olson of the American Cancer Society reports Teton county raised 1398 dollars toward a 1230 goal in the 1952 Cancer Control drive. Community leaders across Power Pendrey Farmington Agawam Dutton Collins Chateau Fairfield and others contributed sums from 11.50 to 459.47, with Olson thanking all volunteers and donors.
The Teton County Memorial Hospital received a Electro Cardiograph machine valued at 800 to 1000 dollars. Donations from the Hospital Fun association and the Teton Connie Shipping association funded the purchase. Doctors Gravy and Hamilton had previously moved machines between town and offices, but the delicate devices needed specialist readjustment. The new EKG is already in use and regarded as a valued asset.
The final budget shows Teton county setting a 36.5 mill levy for the coming year up from 35.4 last year. No mill levy is planned for the airport fund, using only cash on hand of 4,916 dollars, delaying the hangar project. General, road, bridge, poor, and noxious weed funds rise in expenditures, with total county operations to be raised at 581,988.64 dollars and taxable valuation at 9,323,324 dollars, up 599,145 from last year.
The Chateau Acantha earned honorable mention for general excellence in the 800 to 1500 circulation class at the Montana Press Association convention in Sidney last weekend. Forsyth Independent won first, Laurel Outlook second, Ronan Pioneer third. Townsend Star also received an honorable mention. Clarence LaFramboise of Seattle judged the entries on overall quality.
Mrs. Anna Reiding was guest of honor at a farewell party hosted by her daughter-in-law Mrs. Dick Reiding. She left for Billings to make her home with daughter Grace and husband. Mr. and Mrs. Jack Hodgskiss of Denver visit his mother Mrs. Emily Hodgskiss and her parents in Dutton.
