Chateau High football gear issued ahead of season start

Coach Cecil Deming announced Chateau High players must report Saturday morning Aug 23 to receive equipment for the coming season. First team practice is set for Monday Aug 25 at 7 30 pm under the lights. Deming plans freshman and sophomore football teams with Thursday night games. The opener is at Fort Benton against the Fort Benton Bulldogs.

Rose Family Attends Cascade Golden Anniversary Visit

Mr and Mrs Jack Rose and daughter Sharon Jee of Longview Washington were dinner guests of Mr and Mrs Carl Gilbrandsen. They attended the golden wedding anniversary of Mrs Roses parents Mr and Mrs Dea of Cascade and visited relatives in Pendroy and Cheteau.

Golden Wedding Anniversary for Norman Dea Couple

Mr and Mrs Norman Dea of Cascade celebrate their fiftieth wedding anniversary in Cascade hosted by their daughter and son-in-law Mr and Mrs Dick Rose of Pendroy. They were married in 1902 in Eastern Canada and homesteaded in Havre before moving to Cascade about 1910.

Mansfield warns Montanans must face next war

Representative Mike Mansfield on a tour of eastern Montana warned Montanans cannot be isolated from a future world war. He cited Korea and the threat of Communism, saying World War II level damage could reach the Treasure State and that Great Falls air base could be a target. Mansfield, a former UN spokesman, urged awareness of the foreign crisis and hoped Korea stalemate would yield settlement.

Nominating Committees Set for PMA Elections

Seton County PMA committee will name nominating committees on January 15 for PMA community and county positions. Elections occur September 22 for community plus September 26 for county. ballots counted the final date. All eligible farmers may vote if involved in approved programs or insured.

Mrs Hazel McKinnon of Great Falls visited the home of Mr and Mrs Henry D Robinson over the weekend. Guests included Mr and Mrs Steve Snyder and last week Mr and Mrs Milton Snyder and daughter Karen along with Mrs Edith Snyder of Minneapolis. They also visited Mr and Mrs Ed McFarreh.

Huffman Boy Struck By Car In Choteau

Jere Huffman five-year-old son of Mr and Mrs Burr Huffman was struck by a car driven by Rade Mamuzich in Choteau on a Monday around 5 pm on 6th Avenue Southwest. He suffered a cut requiring three stitches and bruises but no broken bones. He was treated at Teton Memorial Hospital and released to go home. Both parties reported not seeing the other until impact, Mamuzich stating about 15 mph.

Sawfly Field Day Attracts Local Farmers Near Dutton

More than 150 farmers gathered at Colonel Swenson’s farm west of Dutton on Tuesday to learn about sawfly control. Researchers led small groups through experimental plots detailing work on wheat varieties with stem sawfly resistance and strong yield and quality traits.

Television to Reach Great Falls Soon Says KXLK Official

An official of KXLK, Great Falls NBC, says television broadcasting may start in Great Falls soon. KXLK plans immediate construction near the new drive in theater by the fairgrounds, with equipment already in place and a year end launch target. The XL chain would operate outlets in Butte Missoula and Great Falls with relay from Butte to Great Falls. Butte would connect to Salt Lake City as the network hub. Some Chateau residents report decent reception from Seattle Salt Lake and beyond.

Ann Barribal Displays Art Works at North Montana State Fair

Two water color paintings and a drawing by Ann Barribal from Chateau were shown at the North Montana State Fair in Keat Falls. Barribal is among 42 professional Montana artists exhibiting in the art building alongside 48 amateurs.

Wells Activity in Pondera Field Sees New Drilling and Completions

In the Pondera field district this week wells near the main field show progress. Hawley’s No. 5 Show completes at 1914 feet yielding about 50 barrels daily while nearby wells like Phillips Petroleum-Rice No. 1 drill between Hannah-Porter and Winkler-Gonnole pads. Winkler-Davidson No. 1 tests gas at 750,000 cubic feet daily after Madison lime, with an oil show. Other rigs such as Spokala-Harwood Mo. 5 cement and cave-in, Hawley-Desimone No. 12 spuds. multiple Winkler and Son locations drill, acidize, or test as operations continue around 27N-4W to 27N-5W sectors.

Wesley Beck Returns To U S After Navy Duty in Korea

Wesley T. Beck aviation electric technician third class USN son of Mr and Mrs J C Beck of Chateau returns to Naval Air Station San Diego after duty in Korea with Patrol Squadron 42. The squadron conducted around the clock weather patrols and carried out anti submarine and anti mine patrols fueling transfer cover photo reconnaissance and air sea rescue duties for UN forces.

Joan Knowlton and Hugh Stillman wed in a Sunday ceremony at a chateau. The bride, given in marriage by her father, wore a Chantilly lace gown with nylon net and satin layers, a long veil edged in lace with a crown of lace and pearls, a baroque pearl necklace, and a white Rainbow Bible with an orchid.

Eight Teton County Boys Attend Annual Boys State

Eight Teton County youths join the sixth Montana American Legion Boys State at Western Montana College Dillon August 17 to 26. Sponsored by the Legion and civic groups, they will elect city county and state leaders, sit in a simulated legislature, and take part in an athletic program. Ida Linjatie Dies at 69 in Chateau Community

Ida Linjatie of Chateau, age 69, died at her home Friday after an extended illness. Funeral services were held Monday at 2 p.m. in the Lutheran church with Rev. A. B. Gravdal officiating. Born in Lapua Finland on Oct 21 1882 she came to Stockett in 1912 and moved to Teton county in 1914 homesteading near Choteau. Survivors include daughter Elizabeth Burch of Great Falls and sons John of Helena and Onni of Choteau. Her husband John died in 1951. Pallbearers named O G Meadows Howard Higgins Archie Hodgskiss Oscar Carlson J I Burch and George Morris.

Annual Flower Show Aug 23 Exhibit List Given

Plans are under way for the annual Flower Show on August 23 at the city park pavilion. The Chateau Women’s Club sponsors the library benefit with a long exhibit list covering many blooms and arrangements. One house plant of a kind is required.

The fourth annual National Championship High School Rodeo comes to Augusta August 23 24 with 2 Montana boys girls among 16 western state contestants. Montana leads with 22 entrants followed by Texas 16 New Mexico 21 and California 11.
